Wireless Lekato WS-50 short review

The device is super simple to use, just turn them both transmitter and receiver and they automatically lock in. It's a no frills device.

Distance wise, I was able to go about 50ft inside the house (corner to corner basically). It doesn't do work well across exterior walls (it's 5GHz so yeah wasn't expecting much).

The latency is pretty high at around 5.84ms, but this is as advertised ("latency less than 6ms"). By itself probably not a big deal (say in the front on an amp), but in front of a modeler and FRFRs with DSP, it can add it up real quick.

The max input is limited to about 1.4 Vp-p, 507mV RMS/−3.7 dBu before it starts clipping. Neither the manual nor the website lists this information unfortunately.

I will be returning these mainly because of the input range.

In the oscilloscope captures below, the yellow probe is the input at the transmitter, the blue probe is the output at the receiver.

If you bought it straight from Lekatodeal, good luck! They told me to pound sand after I asked for a refund for the WS-70 I bought from them.

Out of all of the wireless things I've tried, I like the WS-50 the best 🤔

Oh really ? Man I was hoping other systems were better.

I'm not measuring as detailed as you are, but there's always going to be tradeoffs somewhere. A tonal change irks me way more than anything. Latency is hardly an issue, and dynamic range is something I'm probably too naive to notice.

The max input range is good enough for my Strat.

Here's a capture of my Strat straight out of its jack, strumming pretty hard.
Tthe Horizontal lines are setup for a 1.4V peak-to-peak area (the max range of the WS-50).

I had to strum pretty hard to get to that 1.56V seen on the Pk-Pk stats (Bridge pickup of an American professional II Strat)

And here is a capture of a DiMarzio Crunch Lab pickup at the bridge of my Carvin DC127C, again straight from the guitar jack:

I went through 5 or 6 Amazon special wireless dongles and almost all of them would clip or choke out with my guitars (active EMG and Fishman). The worst was a brand called Swiff. It would clip so bad it literally would stop passing audio momentarily.

I have this set and use them once in a while, never really noticed a problem. Admittedly I hardly ever go wireless but sometimes I will in church or on acoustic to keep the cable clutter down. I am never more than 10 feet away from the receiver.

I have a set of the WS90s and for acoustic through an acoustic amp they work fine, also direct to pa for acoustic but I find if I plug them into helix lt for electric they introduce a lot of hiss.

Unless I'm really kinda forced to and whatever production is providing wireless units, I would never play them. Sure, cables can become annoying, but I rather deal with that pretty small annoyance instead of having to think about latency, sound degradation, "ouch, battery dead" and what not.
Ok, if anyone needs a sideman for a big stadium show, I promise to reconsider.

Beh, it has its pros and cons, like everything else in life. And there are good wireless solutions out there.

People love to talk shit about Line 6's wireless', but i have a G10 Relay i bought for dirt cheap used back in the day, and it's 100% rock solid. Use it at home all the time.

But none of them comes without latency. Even the G10 (which is pretty decent otherwise, at least that's what I remember from using one for two gigs) comes at around 3ms, IIRC. And while not much on its own, it might send you over a tipping point (it would for me, in some scenarios).

No idea what the latency of the Sennheiser XSW-D set I’m using now would be, I can’t tell on stage plugged into a modeler. So far it’s been trouble free as long our bass player turns on his G30 system first. I tried the G10 on its first version and it was great in the rehearsal space, but three consecutive shows it was interference city on stage. I’d like to try one of the dongle-style UHF ones, but those historically fuck up the guitar sound even more.

Interesting. I have a pair and they are decent but I don’t have super hot pickups. I didn’t think latency was an issue. But I did prefer the Line 6 G10.

Specs says: <4 ms

While I don't use wireless much, the Line 6 Relay G75 I have clocks in at like 1.34ms latency, very good.
G75 was cool but it needed the pedal receiver so it wasn’t an option once I stopped using a board for my modeler. G30 was cool too, except for the cheap as battery door.
