Who’s wireless these days?

I definitely want to go wireless once I start gigging again, went over a few review vids last week and was surprised to see the Nux stuff getting a fair amount of props.

I know I definitely want/need something small enough to sit on a pedalboard, no rack receiver. I’m digging the idea of these little dongles just getting plugged in, opposed to a little box with an additional cable and generally a PSU mounted somewhere on the board as well.

Curious whatcha all are using out there!

Bassist and other guitarist are both using those Xvive Dongle-thingies with the blue lights.

Me. I am a stuck in the mud, cabled up curmudgeon, who is not always eager to dance on tables of
patrons while I shred sextuplets like you probably are.

I haven't noticed anything apart from one of them forgetting to recharge it. Last night the bass player
had his cellphone in his pocket while playing and got some odd sounds---so that is apparently a No No. :idk

i have an xvive i use at rehearsals but then at gigs i get paranoid and just use a cable haha

i love how freeing it is using wireless. i feel like i def move around and get more rowdy but i just dont wanna have something like that fail at shows even though it never does at rehearsals.

I'm about to start using mine (GLXD16+) again, especially if I mount it to a pedalboard, BUT:

I've been using the cheap Lekato 5.8ghz system for a good few years now, Vermont to Ohio to Florida, without a hiccup. It just works.
That tuner though :love

This specific Lekato one gets a lot of good reviews. I’ve used quite a lot in the past and it has always worked without any problems.

I think @2112 did a demo on the NUX said was impressed

was this one i think

I saw Bob Mould live a few weeks ago. I was right up front. He was using something like the Xvive or Lekato dongle types (I couldn't see the logo). He ran around the stage all night. There's a rig rundown of the Flaming Lips and Steven Drozd was using something like the Lekato. If they're good enough for those pros they're good enough for me. I have the Lekato and I haven't had any issues with it. They're cheap enough that buying a backup isn't an issue and they don't take up any space on my board.

I have that one, works great.

I bought Swiff Audio ws50 UHFs as a back up to my Lekatos that have been mentioned here. They seem pretty good so far, although I like the Lekatos better. Usage is the key factor in choosing, as I do not venture off the stage into the audience.

I went wireless in 2016 with a Relay G10 and didn't want to go back! No more getting wrapped up or unplugging myself...I move around a lot when I play and used to duct tape my cable to the floor so I wouldn't unplug myself from my peddleberd. I'd still bring an extra cable for Justin ;)

Currently using the Lekato WS-50 and the Nu-X B-5RC at home. My Line 6 Relay G10 is mounted to my HX Stomp board ready to go. I like the idea of having a 2.4ghz system and a 5.8ghz system. If one drops out, I'd switch to the other depending on the environment. My studio desk is sitting a few feet underneath my WIFI router so I can't be too far when sitting at home and need to stay within line of sight of receivers.

G10:
I got it when it first came out in 2016 as my first wireless system.

Needing to plug in a receiver makes me not move the G10 off of the board. I used to keep it plugged into a USB battery pack velcro'd to the side so I could move it around without being tethered to a plug. Without charging the transmitter it would last for weeks. This was back before the firmware update that shortened the play time and we had those cool charging adapters for the transmitters.

Sticks straight out, can be damaged. Although mine has taken a few good blows and is fine, just a tad bent.

I've had mostly great connection success when using it live, damn near exiting the building while playing guitar before having any dropouts at certain places. Diff locations, diff results. The worst and only real bad connection experience was a bar gig on Alameda Island, I couldn't be more than 6 feet away from the receiver. Most other places, bars, clubs, recording studios, practice spaces, different cities, old wiring, new wiring, old buildings, new buildings -- solid connection unless I was a few feet from a router or walking obscene distances with large solid trees in between.

I get a high-pitched (2-3khz) whine when using the G10. I notice it mostly at home, not so much when playing out unless I'm using certain guitars. It hates my 7-string.

I'm on my second transmitter. The first one holds a charge for maybe an hour and the second one lasts a good few hours but they get a little wonky when not fully charged. The light would be green like it had 30+ minutes of play time, but I'd plug it in to the base and it would flash red like it was almost dead, and then go back to green again. If I plug my old transmitter in after it having sat around for a while, it wont charge right away, and start fading to life.

WS-50:
Bought on sale from Amazon in 2021 for $30-40, bought them to have a 5.8Ghz option.

No whine like the G10, but a little brighter tone.

When transmitter dies, I get a loud test tone from the receiver into whatever I'm plugged into. Can be horrible and annoying depending on the situation. Makes me want to keep them charged as much as possible because I don't want to hear that shit.

Same test tone when changing wireless channels.

I've had connection issues at home with these, as well as at someone else's house. I had a Mesh WIFI system and it do NOT play nice with these. Constant dropouts made me shove these in a drawer for a while. I went over to a fella's house a while back for a jam. When he'd use YT on his Macbook, I would get dropouts and interference exactly when videos were buffering or webpages were loading. Some other places it would be fine.

My mesh router at home was replaced by a regular router and AP. Having much better connection with the WS-10 these days, while still not 10/10. I'd say more 6.5/10.

B-5RC:

Bought it last year, thinking I'd need to replace the G10 when it finally bites the dust. Cost me almost as much an OG G10.

Small and slim, very low profile on my recessed Ibanez AZ jack cavity but spins around in a regular side jack.

Good tone, no whine like the G10, but not as good of a connection. I do get a subtle whine when the tone knob of my AZ is just a butt-hair off of 10. Kind of odd, but something I just noticed last week.

Two modes for "cable length" and a mute button.

So far the B-5RC is the one I like to use the most due to tone and features (mute switch, lights indicate battery level, charging case). I haven't really had the chance to use it in the wild so the jury's still out and might be out for a while.

I've bought a couple of different cheaper UHF dongle types and they were mostly garbage.
