Sorry, but I've been out of the music biz for 10+ years so not sure what pedal they are referring to. What's a 'classic Klon' sound?
thank you. Some clones of the Klon which you may wanna check out:
1. EHX Soul food
2. MXR Sugar Drive
3. WH Conspiracy theory
4. TC Zeus
5. Wampler Tumnus
6. JRAD Archer
Nap time now. Have a good evening.
I saw one of these exactly for sale for $700+.View attachment 41240
The manufacturer did not intend to cause the hype.
This is his relatively recent take on the same circuit.
It's an interesting overdrive pedal that a lot of people use with the gain down for a boost. It can put out a lot of level to drive an amp. Circuit is probably different but to my ears it's like a Tube Screamer with less bass cut and the midrange bump is higher pitched.
I just keep hearing that name pop up when I am watching videos of other pedals & they usually refer to them as 'klon like', 'klon clone', 'klon style', etc. At least now I know what they are referring to. I have a J. Rockett Archer Steve Stevens pedal, so I guess that's a Klon type pedal.

I never quite understood the overall hype to be honest.
Fwiw, I was informed long ago that a Klon (I have a KTR), like a Prince of Tone (I don't have a KoT), only shines when the volume is LOUD.
I play quiet, at home. My KTR and PoT sit on a shelf.
My Wampler Pantheon and my PoT are both "Bluesbreaker" circuits. I can make my amps go Crunch very nicely at low volume with the Pantheon, whereas the PoT seems useless at low volume.I am guessing most dirt pedals are like this.
