When people refer to "Klon" sound, etc. What pedal exactly are they referring to?

I was so put off by the hype I didn’t even want to try the model when Cliff finally put it in the Fractal units, but once I did I realized why the hype exist. I use it on edge of breakup stuff and high gain chugga chugga stuff as a boost. It’s extremely transparent sounding while adding just a bit of ‘oomph’ to the signal and you can dial in some dirt along with that oomph or just let it be oomph on it’s own.

It’s a pretty safe bet if you put a Klon(e) in front of a JTM45/Bassman with a shitload of reverb, I’ll be sitting there for hours just getting lost in the tones.

I've discovered the "klon sound" when I've bought the helix (I was aware of the hype but never bothered to try one of the many clones around) and since then has become my favourite boost.

I have Wampler Tumnus in my Pedalboard.

Low gain, a nice amount of volume and it's just perfect for me: a bit of added aggressiveness and not too much low cut.

Cheers I got mine on its release but will open it up and have a look tomorrow👍

I don't know much about electronics. Don't even know how diodes look like. Just passing around stuff I had read when I had thought of buying an even cheaper guitar and large number of pedals. Decided to do the opposite.

I just keep hearing that name pop up when I am watching videos of other pedals & they usually refer to them as 'klon like', 'klon clone', 'klon style', etc. At least now I know what they are referring to. I have a J. Rockett Archer Steve Stevens pedal, so I guess that's a Klon type pedal.
Shout out to the J Rocket Steve Stevens pedal, I love mine

Pedal Trivia: TC Zeus was shipped initially with few units having germanium diodes in them.

J rockett did that with the Archer. The original units shipped with germanium diodes, those were changed to schottky diodes at some point but they never updated the spec so no one knew until some people opened them and found the schottkys

Schottky diodes sound just fine in a Klon circuit but it's kinda shitty they did it without saying anything. Anyone who bought an archer based on the original launch reviews isn't getting the spec they were expecting.

I am no expert but the schottky seem to be the same kind of diodes used in the timmy, if the rumors I read are to be believed.

No they're used in the tumnus. The timmy uses 1n4148.

Like I said they work really well in the Klon circuit, they have similar forward voltage to a germanium it's just IMO crappy to release a pedal with one spec and then quietly change it without saying anything.

I have a silver original one and can say from experience that the vast majority of Klones can capture mostly the tone but rarely the feel. The best clone by far in feel is the Centura.
