I remember plugging into he Axe for the first time, and by the time I was at preset 8 I was sold, this is the stock preset.
Bright and gnarly with plenty kerrang.
This has been an endless quest for me, too. Used to like Spark. Then Softube had the edge for me until Tonex/Tonocracy came out, I think those offer better captures nowadays. Recently the Lion68 pedal convinced me as the best I have tried though. It offers all the Marshall flavoured sounds I would want but also offers the excitement like standing in front of a cranked stack.
The new HX 3.7 Voltage is worth tying for anyone who likes Plexi tones. Perhaps not the most precisely authentic, but definitely in the family and incredibly good sounding.
The undisputed alpha dog of rock & roll amps, modeled on Marshall’s own reference unit from their museum, with an era-appropriate cabinet recorded by legendary AC/DC engineer Tony Platt.

Has that warm Plexi "crang".
It will even sputter and splat if you turn up the pres. or treble high.
(You don't need UA hardware to use this; get it from Softube, their version is Native)
(You can turn off the cabsim and use your own iRs too)
