What Did You Do With Your Guitar(s) Today?

That's hot

iu
I almost went more in that direction lol.
My photo is slightly saturated so it's a bit more muted in person.

Thankfully I have off today!
I have (had) 2 candy apple red strats so decided to paint one yellow. I've never had a yellow guitar, but I really like the color after applying.
Hard to tell exactly in the photo but the color is like a typical summer squash yellow in person, which is relatively neutral imo.
The neck is 1 pc maple, I'll probably do a white or parchment pickguard with HSS config in black. Black bridge with raw brass saddles, black tuning keys and black jack cover. I have everything but the tuning keys. I could also go for a straight up vintage look too but we'll see.

Pickups will probably be Dimarzio Virtual '54 in neck, Heavy Blues 2 or Injector in middle, and either a Steve's Special or AT-1 in the bridge.

The cool thing about the yellow is I can mix and match a variety of pickguard colors all day long.

What type of paint?

What type of paint?
Oh, nothing too crazy. It's an off-the-shelf satin enamel. I just make sure my prep work is really good beforehand. I'll add some more clear satin coats over this week. I'm not as much into the gloss finishes these days.

Mind you, this guitar is a Squier strat that was given to me from a friend who got if for $15 at Goodwill. :grin
But it's one of my favorite guitars to play after I refretted and swapped electronics.

Congrats on the day off! :beer

I dig that Yeller! :chef

I thought of that too. It's still not out of the question. The wonderful thing about the strat design is you can update it with very little effort and expense.
If you go with a chrome humbucker, and wouldn't have to be swapped out entirely if you changed your mind about the color of the pickguard and single coils. You can get single coil covers for cheap and swap them out most likely.

Definitely. I've got a ton of parts to do just that. Even some chrome HBs. Nothing is out of the question and once I start putting things together I'll land on something. It's just my head at the moment is on black hardware and black pickups.

“I was told if you dream of the next world, you'll find yourself swimming in a lake of fire!”

Dream Theater at their best! Hell yeah man. Looks like fun to play those riffs.

It might be in another week or so, right now I'm trying to remember the next part while not fucking up the part I'm playing. :rofl

I paid the VAT bill for my purple les paul today so finally feel like the guitar is mine now. Took 6 weeks from delivery to get the vat invoice but it was a good bit less than I was expecting so it hurt less than I originally thought.

Looks like the UK customs department also gave me a much better exchange rate for the tax than PayPal did to buy it in the first place.

Wow. Is it a flat fee percentage?

I've imported 4 guitars from Japan to the US in the past 2 years
and didn't get dotted once on any kind of tax, duty, or tariff. :idk

I remember selling a lot of gear overseas to Europe and Asia in
the 2000s on Fleabay and a lot of buyers would request me to
declare the value less than what it actually was. I never did it. If
I declared a $1500 guitar at $500 then I could only insure it for
$500.

Also PP's is skimming on the exchange rate. 1000%! Them fuckers
take a percentage in converting currencies. They've done it to me
every time. :hmm

So the Dimarzio Dreamcatcher I wasn't digging so much is a great match
for the Engl E530 Preamp I picked up. Funny how these things work out.
It's like our future selves know what we are going to need before we
do. :bonk

That pairing has been rocking my world for the greater good of all.

Basically we have to pay 20% vat on goods imported into the UK. We also have to pay an import fee. A good rule of thumb is to add 23% onto the price of any guitar you import into the UK.

Europe currently has a trade agreement with Japan so I was able to avoid the import fee this time because N Ireland is still part of the single market with Europe.
My vat bill was about £175 so the guitar delivered to my house cost about £1100. It would have been a bit less if PayPal hadn't hosed me with a shocking exchange rate. Kurosawa gakki won't let you pay with a card directly so I had to use PayPal.

I've brought a few guitars back from california over the years and haven't paid the import vat on those because I carried them on the plane and didn't declare them at customs.

Finished putting this one together. Said F it and painted the headstock too. :grin

Something a little bit different than my initial plans, went with another pickguard for now and cream covers/knobs. SSS configuration.
May or may not change the pickguard on the next string up, but will see how this one grows on me.
