What are you listening to right now ?

I need to dig in I think. I do like some goth tinged stuff. Unto Others is one of my newest favorites (though not miserable) and probably not much in common with PL other than certain influences maybe?
I haven’t heard about Unto Others before but just watched one of their videos on YouTube. I don't really hear much similarity to Paradise Lost. Maybe both bands draw some inspiration from goth rock like Sisters of Mercy, but while the song I heard from Unto Others sounded a bit like a Halloween version of The Ramones (I don't mean that in a negative way at all, I actually liked the song), Paradise Lost are more rooted in doom metal. However, they have undergone many style changes in their long career and have even sounded like a bad-tempered version of Depeche Mode at times. In recent years, however, they have returned to their doom and death metal roots.

Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'll definitely listen to a few more songs from Unto Others.

They are pretty Cure if they like 80s metal. Very baritone goth on the vocal delivery. They do a cover of Pet Semetary and it fits them quite nicely! I have a weird affinity for goth if it's something I like, though I am super not into it if it doesn't hit me the right way off the bat? This is the song I first heard from them

Bad tempered Depeche Mode actually sound awesome :satan :love

Neo-Prog is not dead :chef

I bought all the first five IQ records, from "Tales from the Lush Attic" (1983) to "Subterranea" (1997), and I stopped following their track. Glad to discover their new work. They have released 8 albums since then.

Love these Mini-Moog licks and the Taurus Bass Pedal!!! :chef

Right now listening their latest album "Almost but not quite" that contains new versions of their old songs

Bill Frisell’s take on Thelonious Monk’s “Misterioso,” here in a trio format with Ron Carter on bass and Paul Motion on drums. Frisell does it in G, perhaps to make use of the open 3rd string as a kind of an anchor.

Here’s Monk’s version In a quartet format with Ahmed Abdul-Malik on bass, Johnny Griffin playing tenor saxophone, and Roy Haynes on drums, in the original key of Bb.

Each recorded the tune multiple times, so there’s other versions to explore as well.

Monk’s tunes seem to lay well on guitar, it’s almost like he had a guitarist’s heart with a pianist’s hands. Both versions are nice, and I think Frisell captures Monk’s playfulness.

As a guitarist I prefer the G version, though it usually gets called in jam sessions in the original Bb, so I work on it in both keys.
