What are we watching now?

I forgot to talk about the one thing that most drove me up the :cuss wall in Daredevil:

OK, I get that these superhero vehicles are going to require a certain suspension of disbelief. I'm not going try to weigh science against a blind man seeing and basically automatically knowing everything because he's really good at martial arts. It's fantasy. No problem. BUT...

This theme they take on over halfway through the series, after we've watched this dude inflict the most insane levels of uncontrolled violence on countless bad guys, where suddenly his defining characteristic is that he can't kill anyone, is just insane. And then it comes up as a plot device every other sentence. I've seen this guy kick people off roofs etc etc etc etc - a thousand faces of death - but now his hands are tied, he has his metaphorical kryptonite, in his unwillingness to kill. I'm like, "Dude, were you checking pulses before?"

I mean there are plot holes, and then there are plot avalanches.
That's pretty much most Marvel comics out there. Only the villains are allowed to kill, and the heroes only kill if there is no other way. Well, excluding Wolverine, he'll just rip through a bunch of dudes and nobody tells him to stop.

But everyone else who just got their face done in enough to put them in a wheelchair is "Eh, that guy is probably fine and not suffering from massive brain damage!"

I was quite fond of the original Daredevil TV series but it might be one of those things that is best watched on a weekly basis rather than binge-watched. Born Again felt like everyone was going through the motions and they don't quite know where they want to go with it.

(When I bitch this much about anything, I like to have a well-informed opinion LOL.)
Maybe I should have held to this rule a little more thoroughly. Or maybe I'm just embarrassed for having been so hard on Daredevil: Born Again yesterday. We watched the finale today and it was actually pretty solid. More Frank Castle for one thing - possibly the best actor/ character on the show. Karen's back for a bit. The newsreel stuff seems less superfluous; the politics a little less hamfisted. (Fisk is still a bore.)

All leading up to another season, apparently? I'll probably wind up watching it, and then bitching about it here LOL.

I was just watching Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial (again- I love anything on WWII), and happened to notice Serj Tankian (System of a Down) is credited for the music. Cool!

Although I didn't find it mentioned on his Wiki page. I assume it's him though, cuz kinda unique name.

Edit: Yes it's him.

Finished the Ed Gein Story last night. It went in a lot of directions I didn't expect. Excellent execution all around. For all the violence, gore, etc., my main feeling at the end was one of profound sadness.

Wound up starting the Menendez series immediately after. It's a murder-o-rama around here.

Went and watched Good Boy at the theaters last night. Dog and his master move to the country as his master recovers from life threatening disease. The house is of course haunted.

I loved my doggos. I miss them every day. There is supposedly an Oscar campaign for this dog and he motherfucking deserves it x a billion. I sat there for the short 1hr+ run time and was a WRECK.
I was confident going in there was one worry I didn't need to think about
but I was still on the edge of my seat. I could tell my lovely wife was having a time with it as well.

You could throw 50 people in a tree shredder in a film and I would laugh but don't let a dog outside to piss for a period of over 3.72 hours and I am going to start getting pissed at the screen. This film was all about the haunting through the dogs eyes and it was fantastic. Some moments of the owner being a dick to his dog and I really wanted to choke the dude. The dog was such a sweet boy and I don't know if I have ever seen such an aptly titled film. They did an extra section at the end where the director described his process in filming his dog and it was much needed stress relief after the previous hour of anxiety.

If you dig simple but well done haunted house vibes with a twist in perspective; go see this. If you love your dogs to a point where anything in peril freaks you out; you might want to miss it. But overall I loved it.
