What are we watching now?

Finally got around to watching finale of alien earth

Disappoint. I tried to root for this show the whole time. There was some awesome stuff but way too much garbage overall

Still better then resurrection tho :cop
I'll watch everything Alien. Always. But I was certainly disappointed overall. We'll see how I feel when S2 comes around if I want to give it a go?
Starting watching Fargo the series. Season 1 so far is great. Black Rabbit was great. Also watching Task and season 5 of Slow Horses.
Fargo is awesome throughout. Love it.

How is Task? I kind of want to watch it?

Slow Horses we tried for a bit and I did like it but it was pretty slow and Apple TV drives me nuts so I just dumped. I know there are other avenues but there wasn't enough excitement about it overall for me to pursue it elsewhere?

So far, Task is good. Slow Horses…haha…yeah, the Slow part is kinda appropriate. It’s funny you say that. I actually started watching it because I had nothing else to watch. After a few episodes, I got more into it and by the end of Season 1, I was hooked. Oldman’s character just does it for me, plus it being based in London, it’s enough for me to stay with it, but I get how it would be boring to some.

Oldman is superb as Jackson Lamb. Captures the essence of the character from the books perfectly.

Watching first episode of Ed Gein on Netflix. What in the fucking fuck is Charlie Hunnam doing with this voice :wat:rofl

A few episodes into this but had to take a break. That is one dark and macabre story. I’m assuming the voice is how he talked?

Also started House of Guinness - good so far! :guiness
Finished it up. I actually said to my wife "considering how dark the subject matter was; I am surprised Ryan Murphy (American Horror Sotry guy) made this somehow as, um; "classy?" as he did without resorting to his usual shock tactics.

Then we watched the last episode.

:hmm

Hunnam did good as did the rest of the cast. A little bit too glorify-y and maybe a bit dismissive of what he did in how they seemed to make him almost sympathetic in his older years? Cool little tie-in with some other characters
though I wish they would have just hired the Mindhunters actors
. I dug that part either way.

We've been on a horror binge.
  • The Haunting of Hill House
  • The Haunting of Bly Manor
  • Midnight Mass. Currently watching this one.
They are all full of jump scares but generally pretty fun horror dramas. Visually very nicely done. Lots of the same actors in different roles.

Almost embarrassed to say, I've been watching Daredevil for... well, what seems like forever.

The first couple of seasons were fine. My wife got sucked in and then mentioned it to me because she wanted to watch the "Born Again" reboot together. So catching up on the original series... it felt a bit dated, but I liked some of the characters (and the Punisher tie-in was great, actually.)

But man, it was getting long in the tooth even before the OG series ended, and Born Again is... not good. The most charismatic characters are gone, and those remaining are completely devoid of nuance. Everything that was interesting about Wilson Fisk (I was almost starting to get Penguin vibes from his backstory in early episodes) is reduced to a boring Bane-in-a-Tuxedo schtick here. I get impatient just waiting for his labored, monotone delivery. (And in fact, all of the flashbacks for purposes of establishing backstory, for all their well-executed period piece color, are gone. Born Again is all jump cuts to "man on the street" news footage, which is almost instantaneously formulaic, cliché, and dull.) Production quality is decent, but everything from the music to the religious iconography to the pseudo-political import is ponderous and pretentious. Some of the most interesting threads from the original series are apparently not even going to be touched on? Weird.

Every couple of nights I'll ask, "Do you feel like chipping away at Daredevil?" like it's a chore we've been neglecting. We're at the beginning of the finale and haven't found time to put it out of its misery. That's never a good sign LOL.

(Need to get this schlock out of the way so we can check out Black Rabbit.)

I've never really liked D'Onfornio. Michael Clark Duncan was great in the Affleck movie. Listening to D'Onfornio say the word "city" 139 times a minute is a real drag. And Bucky :wat
