Went with one of the tribe yesterday and watched Marty Supreme. By the director of Uncut Gems (which, tbf; drove me absolutely nuts watching Adam Sandler be the most annoying character doing all the dumb, wrong things in the most annoying "serious role" ever). Good lord I did NOT vibe with that flick!
This film seems on the surface to be another semi-parallel take on that. Only with Timothy Chalamet(?) playing a ping pong champion contender in the 50s. Seems like a really, um; niche film on paper but was very enjoyable. Chamalet's character was also annoying AF and did all the wrong things for the most part but it just worked because of his inherent charm. Despite being a turd Great cast, great performances and other than being a bit too long; another good sign that we have started to do other things besides just the tentpole, tired IP stuff in film. Bonus points x 1000 for knowing it's audience and putting an 80s score in place vs. some 'Rockin' Robin" garbage that would be in line with the film's timeframe and date the movie in a gross way.
