What are we watching now?

Went with one of the tribe yesterday and watched Marty Supreme. By the director of Uncut Gems (which, tbf; drove me absolutely nuts watching Adam Sandler be the most annoying character doing all the dumb, wrong things in the most annoying "serious role" ever). Good lord I did NOT vibe with that flick!

This film seems on the surface to be another semi-parallel take on that. Only with Timothy Chalamet(?) playing a ping pong champion contender in the 50s. Seems like a really, um; niche film on paper but was very enjoyable. Chamalet's character was also annoying AF and did all the wrong things for the most part but it just worked because of his inherent charm. Despite being a turd :ROFLMAO: Great cast, great performances and other than being a bit too long; another good sign that we have started to do other things besides just the tentpole, tired IP stuff in film. Bonus points x 1000 for knowing it's audience and putting an 80s score in place vs. some 'Rockin' Robin" garbage that would be in line with the film's timeframe and date the movie in a gross way.

Old heads… as a huge fan of the Kubrick shining that’s never read the books, is the 90s mini series worth checking out?

I’m a huge fan of Kubricks version too but I also read the book and wanted to watch the mini series as a more faithful adaptation of the book. It was a long time ago and I honestly don’t remember if it was worth the watch, but I definitely preferred the movie. I know King complained about Kubrick’s version a lot but it stands on its own as of the greatest horror movies ever, even if it deviates from the book a lot.

Don't fully remember but Kubrick's version is perfection. Even if it's not King's vision of perfection. I thought the Shining mini series was early 2000s but I don't remember enjoying it. I think they made a big deal of the topiary stuff but I don't give a fuck if the bush is moving if the damn movie isn't scary :rofl

Speaking of Kubrick, tackled eyes wide shut again the other day. This one still puzzles me, I don’t think it’s about secret societies and I don’t think it’s about sex (at least not directly)

What it is about…. Well…. still not sure :rofl

I love Danger 5! I should watch all of it again. Better yet...find it on DVD!

We just finished Stranger Things. Not a particularly great last season but decent enough. I really wish they would have just been able to get it out much earlier.

Mr. Mercedes.

I'm glad they just changed the main character to Irish because Brendan Gleeson's attempt at an accent in Lake Placid was so bad I honestly thought he was trying to get revenge for decades of awful crimes against the Irish accents committed by American actors.

The series gives me the ick, though.

I liked this one actually :bag

I like it. The incest just creeps me a bit.
Oooh yeah I forgot about that. Ugh. Whatsherface from the OG Roadhouse is the mom. I don't know how well received the novel was, but I feel like the show was iway better than it should have been.

Haven't read the novel. I used to be really big into Stephen King. I read everything up to Insomnia.

I know the main character isn't Irish in the novel. I guess we get one back after they changed Red, from Shawshank Redemption, to a black guy.

Not that that bothered me, 'cause obviously Morgan Freeman is awesome.

I loved Rebecca DeMornay and Steven Weber in The Shining, but the kid was a tad annoying. Then again, the kid in Kubrick's version was annoying as well. I own both versions on blu ray and have read the book a handful of times (three or four).

King was a decent writter until he quit coke and really leaned into the "paid by the word" bullshit.
