What are we watching now?

Started (and then binged quite a bit of) Season 1 of Castle Rock on NetFlix. Completely random; I wasn't expecting much. I've been kind of anti-Stephen King since stubbornly reading all 1200 volumes of The Dark Tower series and losing count of the sharks jumped. But this show has me pretty hooked. I'm not sure whether King actually wrote any of it, but I've generally found that he's better at starting things than finishing them. It will be interesting to see where Seaon 2 winds up.
I remember liking Castle Rock but spoiler alert: there won't be a season 2. If the passage of time has anything to do with it :( If you are a fan of IT; you should really watch Welcome to Derry :satan

Are you sure about S2? I could have sworn I saw a Season 2 and had to do my usual "old man with remote control" dance trying to figure out how to cue up Season 1. (But maybe this is just "old man being confused by two different shows".)

Actually, I never read It. The last Stephen King I read was The Dark Tower, and by that point I was just exhausted with the guy. Before then... I remember reading From a Buick 8 in an airport, and thinking it was the worst book I'd ever read; then seeing the film adaptation and marveling at how much worse they'd somehow made it. :facepalm

I'll definitely keep Welcome to Derry in Mind, though!

I'm dumb :facepalm:roflI was thinking of a season 3! Duh.

King has written SO. MANY. BOOKS. I'll loved quite a few of them from waaaaaayyyyyyyback but the ones of his I haven't read are definitely the majority number. Dark Tower is like sci-fi western hybrid iirc and NOT a genre mashup from King I could do. Because I know he would make it 2796 pages long

You almost got it past me. I don't trust my own memory sometimes...

I should mention, having trashed The Dark Tower in two seperate posts now, that I thought the first book (The Gunslinger) was great. Like I said, King is better at starting things than finishing them...

Yeah, it starts out fantasy western, then takes a sci-fi turn, then (spoiler alert) veers into the "real world", and then (spoils itself alert) Stephen fucking King writes himself in as a weird-ass cameo... and by this point you just want it to end but you'll settle for a reasonably painless death.

Would and did. At least.

Please tell me he was wearing a duster :nails

I don't like the Stand either :bag
Never read that one either. Maybe started it and didn't finish? Can't recall.

I may be confusing Buick 8 with The Dreamcatcher as being the worst, versus 2nd worst book and/or film-adaptation ever. :D Don't quote me; can't recall. Like you said, SO many books. Too many.

I remember really enjoying The Dark Half right up until the ending, where as usual, it became apparent he had no idea how to end the thing.

And on the Rob Reiner train, I decided to watch "All In The Family" from the beginning. I am certain I have never seen all episodes and thought it would be interesting to see it in order. OMG, the first episode came out swinging! I am looking forward to seeing how the characters develop as well as whether or not the humor/themes have stood the test of time.
