What are we watching now?

Watched a ton of movies on my recent long haul flights:
  • Mystic River - first time seeing this - great cast, great movie! A modern classic I think.
  • Black Bag - pretty standard action spy thriller type flick, nothing super special but entertaining enough
  • Flow - great animated film with no dialogue. Story was sweet and the animation and music was beautiful
  • Drop - mostly predictable suspense/thriller with a few cool twists that made it unique. Fun watch.
  • Locked - I had high expectations of this one with the SkarsgÃ¥rd and Hopkins combo, but it was just super predictable and drawn out. The trailer is pretty much all you need to watch
  • Joker: Folie à Deux - I knew this was going to be bad based on the reviews but I had time to kill and I loved the first movie so much I had to give it a try. I'm a Gaga fan, but why did they try to turn this into a musical?? WTF? So much potential wasted.

On the latest season of Resident Alien. Really surprised they've kept this show as light and engaging as they have over 4 seasons. I will say this season looks like everyone got an Ozempic sub before they started filming. Including people who don't need an Ozempic sub? Good watch regardless but a little distracting

Finished up RA. All in all; great end to the proceedings. Not sure if they are truly over but if they are; they knew when to pack it in while doing it in a way that tied up everything quite nicely. Great cast and comedic writing.

Watched a couple of Shudder as well. 'Rounding' about a traumatized Dr. trying to finish up his residency. Not sure really why they leaned into horror when it was more of a drama with a thriller streak? Kind of a somber low budget A24 wannabe but was actually pretty damn good.

'Night of the Reaper' is an 80's throwback with no real surprises per se but was actually MUCH better than I expected it to be. Slasher in the house trope (and really all that comes with it) but I thought it was very good as well.

Alien earth continues to simultaneously deliver and disappoint

I’m like:

1/3: FUCK YEAH :love
1/3: indifferent
1/3: this is fucking stupid and full of plot holes
I think I am realizing more and more that the flashback episode was my favorite because they just tried to ape the OG. I like some of it and Olyphant is carrying pretty much ALL of the weight just by doing what he does. The Peter Pan arc is DUMB and Boy Kavalier needs to get ground into dust.

My initial excitement of Noah Hawley being involved has definitely been wiped out. I’m still holding out hope that the finale goes full Fargo with a substantial amount of casualties. Fuck all these dumb characters :rofl

I hope if there is a subsequent season or spin off it focuses on the mission to collect the specimens

Yeah he left most if not all his Fargo cred at the door :( I DO like my sci-fi on the dumb horrific side but this has had any of that potential vibe sidelined by annoying as fuck characters doing the dumbest things ever committed to film. The kids in adult bodies at first was funny but that vein has been tapped and emptied and really played out. I don't know how much redemption can be had with what's left. Unless they spend a whole episode torturing tech bro before they off him

I’m watching this soon, I don’t know how I didn’t know it existed lol. Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors, never seen a movie where he starred in it that I didn’t like
Man, I wanted to like Terminator Salvation - but that was a hot mess

Watching Black Rabbit on Netflix. New Jason Bateman/Jude Law crime thriller. 2 episodes left and is great so far.
Watched all eight episodes yesterday into today.......another good one
yes.gif

Finished up Alien Earth. Umm; I'd say I'm done? Stretching it out for another season is not going to work for me, dawg. Unless they do something really redeeming next go round. If I have to see "Wendy" make percolating coffee noises with her mouth in another scene while the rubber suit alien runs around in broad daylight: I'm going to jump out a window :wat:ROFLMAO:
