What’s your unpopular guitar take?

Ok... I'll start light:

All modern high gain / metal amps sound the same or, at least, similar enough that they can easily be EQ'd to sound the same.
this is literally how I ended up loving a fractal, I flipped about twenty-five amps in ten years and the only one I kept was the most unique sounding (mark iii). you can go down a rabbit hole about cab and boost but you're still just EQ'ing the amp. I can make a recto do a marshall's job in the mix even if it doesn't sound exactly like a marshall in the room.

-Stainless frets are best

-I don't care if what comes out of my modeler sounds just like a particular amp brand/model

both of these are good takes

I will add mine that pickups don't do shit except determine the sweep of your volume knob and that actives are better for any recording application because the benefits of the mild compression outweighs any feel/dynamics bullshit, ain't no one gonna hear that

Strandbergs are way overpriced (I own and love one)

Gibson guitars are dope and the QC complaints are largely overblown internet stuff

If you can’t play the gig aith a $150 guitar that’s a you problem . Of course…. Why the fuck would you want to play a gig with a $150 guitar. Nothing wrong with being a snob

I can’t get on with modellers for everyday/live use
No, Strandberg have the same margin as almost the whole industry and Gibson build on most models is shit. It’s not QC it’s just how they do it.

Those with a strong preference to captures/profiles aren’t confident enough about dialing in their own tones.

If you don’t believe tone is in the fingers, there’s a good chance the gear is playing you.

A big turning point for me came when I had the epiphany that I was trying to coax music out of a guitar rather than putting music into a guitar, or as I thought of it at the time, "I'm not playing the guitar, the guitar is playing me." It was especially true when it came to loudish electric guitar. Watching SRV, either his first Austin City Limits appearance, or his first MJF appearance is that made the light bulb go off.
