Tom Quayle I Hate You

if only that unbelievable brain could come up with a piece of music ...
Saying that as someone who bought his his everything bundle or whatever that was called 4-5 years ago.

He's a soloist. Give him a piece of music and he'll weave magical lines all over it. Who cares if he can write?

He's like Holdsworth. I only really like a handful of his tunes. The rest was just alien lounge music imo.
But I could listen to the guy improvise extended solos all day long.

I like him. Used to really like him and Martin Miller but the scaly yt shred thing grew stale for me - that's why I bought his lessons bundle which was quite expensive.
That said, imo, there’s a huge difference between people like Guthrie and Greg Howe and them. Holdsworth is not even comparible ... neither are specialized guitarists like Gambale, Meola, Stern. I don’t place them in the same category.
Guthrie is the most comparible in this sense due to the fusiony thing he does but he’s a monster and unreal musician and while still not as authentic as specialized players he's much more...
I listened to the clip and there are phrases where he literally plays a scale up and down. I would not listen to this several times while with Guthie for example I listened to his Erotic Cakes album tens of times and I could listen to it again.

To me this is about the best they ever done:

Fwiw, I once tuned a guitar in perfect fourths (after noticing that I had zero orientation issues on a 6-string bass I had borrowed for a few days) and it's quite amazing how easy it felt to get along with it. I bet I could've gotten completely used to it in a matter of days, maybe some weeks.
But then, all that is only true for scalar stuff.
For chords, while they're looking the same all over the neck, it's quite horrible IMO. Try to play closed position triads on your A, D and G strings. It's ok - but then compare it to how much easier the same triads fall into place on the D, G and B strings, for certain things one might like to play it's almost night and day.
And let's not even talk about 4-part voicings. Sure, you can still make most of them work, but some are really uncomfortable.

But then, for someone mainly into the noodling thing, fourths are fine.

I’ve been checking my tuning the second I pick up a guitar, with an open G chord since nearly day 1, I think tuning the B and E strings any differently would fuck me up way too much. I’m not smart in the head enough to transpose that fast and far too lazy to adapt it.

I’d be curious to hear what the benefits are for those that do it, though.

He's one of my favorite fusion guitarists and I love that tone. He used to use Fibenare guitars and now he gets it done with Ibanez !

One can say the same about Tim Henson, yet nothing about his playing or his music moves me
Does not make me move, Don't make me tap my feet or bang me head
No doubt though very technical and very talented
That though are my thoughts and opinion and mine alone

Cheers

He had a teacher that he kind of idolized that did it so he did it. He's used to it at this point and can't go back. I saw one interview where he said he didn't really think it was really beneficial, just what he knows now -- you still gotta learn the notes, regardless of pattern symmetry.
