To Harley Or Not To Harley, That Is The Question?

Leaving Pulp Fiction GIF

Fun week. My youngest son is driving his first car that we purchased earlier this week,
and I am going out on the bike for the first time since etting it home.

No idea how a fuckwad like me managed this kind of shit. There must be a God,
and He or She or It must be kind. :love

Headed Out On The Highway! :beer

Looks great! Congrats again!! One thing I would change (all personal of course) is I would ditch the spoked wheels! Worst part of cleaning on any vehicle I have ever owned. Drove me nuts. And the worst part is, the brake pad glue (that holds the fibers together of the pad) that gets on the spokes.

Anyway, safe and sane Brother, shiny side up! Oh, and LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES, so use 'em to let people know you are there when necessary!!!

I have found out that Harley Owners are more judgmental and critical about other
people's Harleys than Gear Owners are about other people's Gear. Yup. :facepalm

Been told to change the bars, wheels, tires, seat, and bags so far. :wat

:rofl
Just to be clear, I was not telling you what to do with the wheel, but what I would do based on personal experience and wanting to ride rather than clean! I took plenty of sh!t in my riding time for not having the cleanest bike and I just laughed at those people while I was riding and they were cleaning ;~)) If you put 20,000 miles on your bike in any year, you will be in my category of riders! I did just that 6 years in a row.

I have purposely not, because I know. :rofl

But I too hate laced wheels because I hate cleaning. But kept clean, they look better than mags imo.

Type of wheels would be something you decide on before you buy.

Agreed, love the look of them (especially on my Heritage Springer with fringed bags, etc.) but cleaning them is a PITA!

EDIT: As for decide before you buy, when I was ordering my Custom Vehicle Operations 2003 Screamin' Eagle Deuce, I said I want these other HD wheels! They said "sure, go ahead and buy them, and when you get the bike with the wheels it comes with, you can swap them out". Now THAT is custom (NOT)! I still bought the bike and never did change the wheels ;~((

I was picking up my 100th Anniversary Electra Glide (I know that Screamin Eagle Deuce very well), and there was a Dyna Wide Glide ready for someone else, and damn did it look good!! The black and grey (same as mine), but it had the laced wheels (I ordered the gold mags), and it was a STUNNER!! Almost made me wish I had opted for that bike instead. Almost.

Fuck cleaning bikes! Hate it!!

So based on all this talk of riding, I am really jonesing and wishing I could get out there! A variety of circumstances prevent that at this time and I have not ridden in over 10 years now, but it has inspired me to write a takeoff on John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads". Here are the lyrics I wrote moments ago that reflect my feelings about about motorcycle riding ;~))

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Country Roads Are My Home (music and some lyrics by John Denver from "Take Me Home Country Roads") - Copyright July 28, 2023 - ANO Publishing, LLC - All Righst Reserved

[Verse 1]
Clearly Heaven, twistin' highways, climbin' mountains, rollin' by the rivers
There is peace here, in the sky and trees, floatin' top the mountains,
Thunderin' through the breeze.

[Chorus]
Country Roads, that's my home, it's the place, I belong,
In the saddle, free of shackles, country roads, that's my home

[Verse 2]
All my memories gather round her, biker's lady, smokin' cross paved waters
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky, power taste of throttle,
Teardrop tank I ride.

[Chorus]
Country Roads, that's my home, it's the place, I belong,
In the saddle, free of shackles, country roads, that's my home

[Bridge]
I hear her voice in the morning hour she calls me,
The radio reminds me of those highways far away.
And cruisin' down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been here yesterday, and today

[Outro]
Country Roads, that's my home, it's the place, I belong,
In the saddle, free of shackles, country roads, that's my home
Country Roads, that's my home, it's the place, I belong,
In the saddle, free of shackles, country roads, that's my home
Let me roam, down country roads; Let me roam, down country roads

That's exactly what I did. :beer

Everything about the bike was intentional on my part. I searched high and low and found one in
the same state, and then worked a deal with the guy to trailer it halfway since he was still hundreds
of miles away.

I know, Moondog. Just having fun.... and also because I have received 10 tons of shit about what I should do from other
people..... and only had 6 days. :wat

A few ladies said nothing but nice things today. :chef

I didn't buy it for those people, though, so I can take a ribbing... or a boatload of you shoulds or shouldn'ts.
