The Rack Thread

I fell down that rabbit hole just before covid hit and bought some pieces while prices were still in the basement. I got my FM3 few years later and really haven't used the MPX-1 or 2120 since (the Digitech has the 2120 Artist firmware upgrade). I love the preamps but Fractal's effects are outstanding and the FM3 made auditioning effects so fast and easy I lost my desire to deal with the complexity of the rack effects. I'll hang on to them though. They will be fun to mess with when I retire in a few years and have time in my life for them.

Got my greasy mitts on an old Dimension D rack last week. Glorious chorus!

There's a comparison with the DC2w, KT BBD320 & Fractal Dimension mode tucked away in the video.

They all pass the smell test IMO but the rack is so CHUNKY and fun to play.

It's always wild to see these old rack units and they're like 2U size with barely any controls. Like "Y'all could not cram this into at least 1U?"

nah small clone og with the big dumb empty box has a huge mid scoop compared to nano clone and neo clone, solid state stuff suffers the same component layout effects that tube stuff does

Sounds so good. Perfect chorus.

Have any of you guys used those SoundTown or AccessAbles racks? I’ve grown out of a 12U and am patching together other smaller ones with it, but I don’t want to drop a grand or anything close to that on those Gator or Tour-Bomb-Proof racks. Those SoundTowns seem to have decent reviews and aren’t too pricey for towers. :idk

Scored this thing last week. I’ve only had a couple mins through the headphone out to verify it works, but I’ve gotta give it credit. For 90s cab simulator tech it’s actually much better than I expected in the cans.

Later this week I’ll send it into my Mark III’s fx return and see what it’s really made of.

Had one of those in the late 90’s. Had some great tones in it! Congrats on the cool find.

Still have one of those somewhere in the basement, too. Didn't like it back then, only used the clean channel. Maybe I should revisit it...

I had one of the floor versions 20 years ago and thought it was fun but just OK. The jury is still out on this one until I push it through a tube power section at volume, but initially it surprised me.

The cleans seem CLEAN regardless of mode and that’s not really my vibe, so I’ll eventually show it the klone and see where it lands. I got a very juicy low/medium gain out of the blues mode on the lead channel.

One cool thing is it uses this obscure switching system that I suspect I can control with Helix and switch between clean and all 3 lead modes (blues, crunch, lead). The channel blending feature is interesting too.

Just looked those V-Twin Rack preamps up and they're still going kinda strong. If I could get 400 for mine (saw a less than stellar looking one for 500), it'd possibly be an instant sell.

The V-Twin rack isn’t going to permanently join the family. Overall it sounds fine and there are some other tests I want to do, but with a Studio Pre & 2:90, Mark III, and Recto already prowling the amp room there’s just nothing in the twin that I wouldn’t go to one of those amps for first.

I think this one’s going to help pay for a triaxis closer to Christmas. Still haunted by that $700 one I missed last week.

This has been exactly my experience. There's always been something I found more suitable.
