A Journey to Blended Tone (6505 + 8200)

Gentlemen,
Allow me to take you on a brief journey through my recording setup as it sits today
In the studio room, I've got this little pedalboard along with the Radial Shotgun that drives everything else in the house. When I'm feeling extra angry at the neighbors there's additional amps I can tie in at the same time. Today I'm just using two.

There's two cables headed out to the main amp room / bedroom. One is a CAT6 cable for the microphones, one a guitar cable to hit the Shotgun back there.

At the other end the CAT6 hits a mic interface under the dresser with a switch to turn on phantom power for the Roswells I can pull out when I need it and shove back under the dresser when I don't. The split is one MD421 on the bass amp, the two Roswells going through a Radial phantom supply, and a M160 on another cabinet. The guitar cable is tied to the mic cables and heads over to the Shotgun, residing between the two pedal boards.

Each board has its own separate battery based power supply under it. The amps can be removed from the Shotgun when friends come over to jam so we can stereo up if we want. Or we can just take turns sitting in the control room/studio room doing takes with both/all amps.

Still working out mic position for the 6505 cab, but here's a quick blended, both amps on for one take per side clip:


If I can get this sounding as good in the DAW as it sounds standing in front of that pair all wound up, there's gonna be some epic riffage getting recorded soon.

I am super curious about implementing them for Mic splitting/cable consolidation. :unsure:

I've been using those for about a year or so and haven't had a single problem with them. Phantom power can be tacked on at the mic end with a little load box that's pretty cheap, so unless you're in a super electronically noisy environment where you worry about picking up interference through the CAT6 cable, I'd recommend them as a good cheap, and small, alternative to the traditional XLR snakes.

Radial makes a little box called the Stage Bug that covers two phantom power supplies for separate mics. And it's Radial so it's 100% rock solid.

Remind me. Have you had any of the older 5150s around the house over the years? I can't remember your take on them. I know you have historically done the SS Marshall thing to great success. Those 1992s are priced pretty good and I am wondering how close they are to the OGs?

I owned a block letter for a number of years. I'd say the 1992 is right in line with it, maybe just a shade darker, but nothing that can't be overcome by bumping the presence a smidge. Some claim that's just the tubes they're shipping with being darker, which may very well be true. I haven't swapped tubes in mine yet.
Tone sounds great but the shoes on in the house is triggering me so hard bro.
I've almost always wore shoes in the house. I ain't down for tying and untying every time I go through a door. :lol:
