The Rack Thread

Oh My Omg GIF by Sony Pictures Television

Ok guys well…mixed bag here.

The 2:90 made it, and it works, but boy did Fed Ex mangle the living shit out of one of the ears. Trying to get this straightened out so I can rack it is not gonna be a good time, and Mesa already informed me if that ear breaks there’s nothing that can be done about it.

UGH! I've had this happen once too when someone shipped me a 2:90. It's one of the worse amps to ship. A good rule of thumb when shipping these is to tape a 4"x 2" wood block to the back of each of the exposed ears.

If you haven't solved this bend already ----- this can be hammered out. I'm not recommending it, but can speak from experience I have hammered the ears of a 2:90 straight before.

Also, if you haven't tried them yet, Deep and Modern voicings are fantastic. If you don't have a pedal relay set up, you can snag two of these

I almost always keep Deep and Modern on with mine, and these things allow you to use the red button on them to turn the voicings on or off.

I just realized I repeated myself. Oh well, it's good advice at least

You did, but it was good advice. I picked up the jack switches you recommended a few weeks ago but haven’t done much with the 2:90 - waiting on the Studio Preamp to get back from service.

Got the patchbay completely wired up full normal mode. It’s like adding magic to the setup.

I should have worked a patchbay in years ago. So nice being able to reroute without crawling on the ground. lol

Labeled it but that’s going to last about 37 days before I end up having to break out a sharpie or sticky note.

There is a special place in hell for designers that make devices with power switches on the back, but thats about the biggest gripe I have atm.

Power it all down with the furman after putting your power amp on standby. I’ve done that for years.

For sure. A lot of times I do, but eventually I hate having something on for hours that I’m not actually using at the time.

Favourite case ?
Power amp separate to make it easier to move or old school rack of doom?
"FRFR" cabs for wet in a WDW?
Solid state fr for wet ?
Favourite mixer for analog dry ?
Big midi foot control and pedals in the rack or hybrid?
Favourite front end looper for not changing your dry sound?
Favourite cables?
Favourite wet cabs in WDW ?
Anyone here running a true bypass all analog dry signal all tube?

Answer on a postcard please!

Favorite case:
My favorite case I ever gigged with was my Odyssey 8 space. It had wheels, was wooden, and not expensive. But it was carpeted, so after a bunch of gigs and sitting in the back of the trailer it has quite a bit of fuzz on it. Keep the power amp in the same rack, it’s not that heavy if you’re using 10 spaces or less IMO.

WDW - nah I just like using rack gear to have a big stereo sound. I love my 4x12 and the sound of the sides split into stereo is just beautiful. I’ve never tried WDW but would love to someday.

Favorite cables: Mogami bulk cable with SP400 ends for pedalboards, Monster instrument cables in the rack and from the guitar.

I don't gig much, every few years at most now, any soft rack case does the trick for me.

Definitely the power amp in a separate case for.

As I run plenty dry in my wets, "FRFR" for wet is problematic as most FRFRs has DSP and will introduce a tiny bit of latency messing with the phase.

I had a Matrix for a while, felt it did the trick

I have the RJM Mini Line Mixer, super transparent, very happy.

Never racked pedals so can''t really answer.

RJM Mini Effects Gizmo, love it!

Mogami.

Ideally same cabs/speakers for me for W/D/W is a like plenty dry in the wets.

No AD/DA conversion happening to my drys ever. If I'm going to use the Axe in my amps loop I'll run it parallel.

That PCM41 panned delay and chorus around 21:20 :chef Triaxis cleans with the wobble patch on the PCM70 killer too.

Rack is just the coolest.
I know it's crap by comparison to the PCM70, but this has me itching to dig my MPX 500 out of the garage and see what I can get out of it. If nothing else, I'll probably like the reverbs over the ones in the helix (I'm using the PAS setting on a TC Electronic Arena in place of those now).

And really fun video by Michael there.
