The mf’ing H90

It sounds great, but totally unusable in a band situation imo. Pita to use and not intuitive to change things quickly.
Used it for 3 gigs then gave up. Preferred my mobius/dd500, and now using and loving the vp4.

Yes I agree, plastic fake digital gloss on everything.
Yeah I don’t know how many songs and guitar tones that I’ve been turned off to because the digital gloss in the effects…. just pulls you right out of the enjoyment.

Digital Gloss. That's my new 80's inspired band name. (y)

Still doesn’t make the H90 sound good.
I should preface this by saying I have two H9s on my pedalboard and lived with the H3000 rack mount box for 25 years (I no longer have it, I'm "in the box" now) which is kind of a studio classic from the '90s.

But...Do these boxes sound digital? Certainly. They are, after all, digital. I think digital has a sound, and sometimes it's not a great thing. For example, the distortion effects on digital gear grinds my brain into sawdust. Sometimes it's a great thing, though; the Eventide micro pitch delay, for example, is a studio classic effect heard on dozens of hit records for many years.

Having started in the analog days, I find that all digital gear sounds digital, it's just a question of what aspects are or aren't appealing to the player or listener.

Sometimes digital is OK, sometimes it's not, but the determination as to what aspect of a sound drives one up the wall is going to be different for every person and in every situation. It's also the same with analog. I'll never love the sound of a Buchla synth, but I love me some Moog.

So I'd say you're right - for your ears, your brain and your situation.

After all, who can argue with someone else's perception or taste? Ultimately, isn't having different artistic and audio perspectives a good thing so we don't all sound like cookie cutter creators?

I like using them. They inspire me to do things. That's good. I like the tone.

But...

It's equally good if you don't like them, you know what to avoid.

The Timefactor sounds so much better. This was my problem with the H9 before. I replaced a Timefactor with one and regretted it instantly. The H90 is just more of this . H9/90 reverb is so bad it isn’t even funny.

I had a Timefactor and I can agree, it was an extremely nice pedal. I like the H9 just as much.

As you can probably tell from my earlier post, I have no problem with anyone disliking a gadget I like. We're all different and that's as it should be.

I genuinely like the H9's reverb, and use it often in my so-called professional life.

I'm not suggesting that anyone else should share my feeling on this. Quite the contrary, it's interesting to read other points of view!

Tastes and opinions will differ from person to person.

Everyone likes what they like but you’re not in the minority in knowing the H9 and H90 doesn’t sound like shit. I’m no pro but I have a good friend who’s played on quite a few albums and he still does session work out Nashville and remotely as well. He has an H90 on his board and he uses it quite a bit and never gets told his sound sounds like “glossy digital shit”. It may not be your thing and you can certainly prefer other units who do the same effects but to say it sounds like shit? Laughable.

It’s Eventides worst sounding product. Shit may be relative but it’s a fair description in comparison to their top tier stuff.
