The mf’ing H90

I like Boss delays and modulations. They are a bit more brash than the FAS stuff but I am good with that. The Boss reverbs I always say I don't generally like but once in awhile I come across something that trips my trigger. L6 stuff all sounds like pedals I don't like the sound of, generally speaking.
rv3 and rv5 are goaty

A lot of the initial stuff I get with Boss is super metallic. And to be fair to them; my thinking of them never adding or improving on anything (which is not true) creeps in. So that probably has me throwing in the towel earlier on their verbs than I maybe should? Then I throw on a FAS verb and melt into that stuff. Oof.

I'm honestly not too familiar with Boss reverbs. I'm sure they're perfectly good for 99% of needs. Maybe metallic complaints are from the lack of editing functions (in the smaller units)? All I know with VP4 is there is a clarity and sense of space that feels really nice. I'm sure it could also get 'metallic' sounding if set that way.

For a reverb pedal I really like the Hardwire RV-7 with the Lexicon chip. They did a good job getting the Lexicon sound into a small pedal. I really don't use reverb anymore these days though but if I did, that would be the pedal for me.
Always heard good things about the Digitech stuff from that era. I really like the MXR M300 verb pedal for spacey/lush verbs in a basic pedal package.

I never took the Hardware series serious at the time b/c I always associated DigiTech with low quality.

I don't think of them as smooth 'realistic' reverbs. They're character reverbs. Slam them into the front of an amp, very easy to get Kevin Shields type sounds. I love my RV-5. Better than the RV-6 I think.

I have the Hardwire TR-7 and it's great. If I had to use a univibe effect other than my MDV-3, it would be the one for sure. The trem and rotary options are very nice too.

The issue I had with MXR pedals in the effects loop is they were not very transparent. I noticed a loss of highs with all the ones I've tried. But I haven't tried the M300.

Hilariously, at the moment I'm just using it for a very mild and subtle-might-as-well-not-be-there plate reverb :rofl
:LOL:I'm sure the plate and spring modes are great! It was just the first verb my ears took notice of those bigger/epic sounds. Strymon never caught my attention for that stuff really at all despite being the "leader" of that kind of thing?

That's a pretty good question actually... which pedal reverb was the first to get me interested in big ambient spacey shit.... I actually don't remember, but it was definitely pre Strymon. Particle Reverb on the Line6 M-series definitely needs a shout out, but there were plenty more too.

I used to use the Digitech Hardwire reverb and delay as my main ambient effects, but I actually found the reverb a bit too limiting. I sold it and that was when I got sucked into the Strymon world I think. Going back a long time so can't really remember. I bought another one of those RV-7's a few years back, and it was really good and nostalgic to have the pedal I recorded our 2nd album with, but in the end I came back around to feeling like it was too subtle and not flexible enough.

The Boss RV-5 was the 2nd pedal I ever bought. The first was an Ernie Ball Vol Pedal!!!

Have you tried the Digitech Supernatural? It's more conducive to the ambient stuff. The Hardwire is more for the Lexicon sound for leads/cleans etc.

I don't gel with Strymon pedals, largely for the same reasons I didn't gel with the H90.

The no analog dry thru on the Eventide stuff is a long-standing deal breaker
for some.

Latency.... latency.... latency.... latency.....

For others it is a non-issue. Gets used with great results by a lot of folks. :beer

Yes I agree, plastic fake digital gloss on everything.
I didn't want to put it like that but.....
