The Food Thread

I think I mentioned somewhere back within the 36 pages of this thread how I was going to try to switch to a whole-food, plant-based diet, and how I'm absolutely convinced of the health benefits. However, I slacked off since then, but reaffirmed my desire to stick to it, and started this past Monday. All week it was fruits and veggies, except last night I needed to go grocery shopping, didn't feel like it, so I caved to my craving for a Hardees Mushroom & Swiss burger, and my carpal tunnel flared up again today.

Not claiming a direct connection, but it hadn't bothered me all week. I just got back from the store and made myself a big bowl of berries parfait. It's gonna take some getting used to, but hopefully I'll end up with a handful of new recipes that I like, and will find that that's enough. We shall see...
I just started doing a diet change as well. Been going on for about a month now. Fresh fruits, veggies, greens, lean meats and fish, nuts, yogurt, crumbly style cheeses, eggs, etc. All the good stuff and none of the processed sugars, sodas, fast food, seed oils. Just the occasional olive oil and pure butter.
Making smoothies in the morning now, and usually some eggs. I've cut back on coffee a lot too, but adding a little honey and half n half when I do.

I feel so much better now that I've gotten in a routine. I'll eat small snacks later in the day to keep me going, like a banana or apple. It's hard to explain but since I've been doing this diet I feel like time has slowed down somewhat? It's weird lol. Maybe my brain functions are improving (debatable), and I just have a clearer thought process. I don't know. But my joints feel better for sure, less inflammation and my face doesn't feel as puffy in the morning.

So I'm going to keep at it for as long as I can. Plus I enjoy eating a better variety of foods.

There's definitely something in that man, I did the human being diet for 6 months last year, and it's meant to massively reduce inflammation.

As soon as I started eating processed foods and shitty carbs again all my traditional aches and pains pretty much started straight back up.

I did make something reasonably healthy last night though.

Blackened salmon fillet, herb roasted potatoes, charred romaine lettuce and an avocado, garlic and coriander sauce.

That looks tasty. I've never really charred romaine at home, maybe I'll do that tonight. Do some tuna fillets, sweet potatoes. My niece gave me some sweet basil so going to make a greek yogurt, curry and basil based sauce to top the fillets with. Should be interesting!

Do it, it's good 👍🏻 little squeeze of lemon or lime on top is also good.

I've been using the Factor meal service (and others like it) for the past several years. I order 10 meals a week, so I know at least the majority of my nutritional intake is balanced and healthy.

Now I just need to find a healthy alternative to ice cream.

Last week, I again watched a few of the documentaries that discuss the various aspects of why a whole-food, plant-based diet is so good, and checked out one of the websites, forksoverknives.com, and pulled up a delicious recipe for this salad, made it last night and ate half, then just devoured the other half a little while ago. Yeah, I can do this. Lots of flavors!

Back when we'd have a family get-together, and go out to dinner at my favorite restaurant, The Narrows, (@Warmart?), I'd always look forward to their Nuts & Berries salad, so I don't know why I'd never taken the initiative to make something like it at home, but this one is going on "The Menu!"

Here's what I made tonight. Local market had some flounder so grabbed that instead of using my tuna. White yams mashed with roasted garlic, cilantro, seasoning and coconut milk, and bit of parmesan cheese. Charred romaine with olive oil and parmesan. Green sauce is mango/sweet basil/curry with yogurt and coconut milk. Fairly simple and turned out well!
