This seems like a product nobody asked for. IMO that grille thing looks pretty awful and the only reason you would buy it because it's still a Mesa cab, and maybe cheaper than the more popular models.

despite the hideous grille- theyre the best cabs mesa ever made imo. theyre honestly my favorite configuration of cabinet that exists just because they do everything well- full bottom, great dispersion and they just feel awesome. i prefer them with evms in the bottom and probably the top too .. but thats where the 212 version is better. id still rock that... the 412...gaaaaar..

I’d definitely take one of the rectifier road ready 4x12 cabs over these metal grille models, and really only because I’m a sucker for a matching set with my revision G.

I don’t fully understand Mesa’s fixation with metal, billion pound cabs.

Why did reading this give me a backache?

Holy shit, not by a long shot. People always ask when they're going to bring these back. I think they're ugly as hell, and too fucking big. But what do I know.

I LOVE the metal grille look. Open and closed back in the same cabinet is dumb af though.

this you haveta try. its absolutely way better than itd appear to be. not even kidding that thatd be my chosen cabinet for anything if reality didnt exist seriously delivers on full top end dimensionality and chug. sounds impossible but checks out.

I think they're a "you had to be there" type of thing. I had a chance when I was a teenager to pick up 2 of these 4x12 metal grille cabs used for $600 in a shop. I was young and didn't have the money. Had i had the money at the time, I'd probably still be playing those to this day. Yeah it's an ugly, dated look, but I'm an ugly, dated guy so it all works out :rofl

Anyone find their Mark V noisier than their Dual Recto when chucking some digital pedals in front of it???

Asking for a friend!!

Can't say about a Dual Recto, but I haven't found the Mark V particularly noisy with digital fx in front or in the loop. I had the Riverside up front with El Cap V2 and Flint V2 in the loop. No issues.

I'm actually pleased how low noise the Mark V 90 has been considering its batshit insane internals.

Y’all been talking to my wife? I just bought a Boss SD-1 and she went “what, that amp doesn’t give you the tone you want already?” 😭
Team "channel 2 needs another gain stage" says hello!

I still don't get why they would leave out a gain stage available on V2 tube. I'd gladly take a "boost" switch on ch2 instead of that mostly useless Mk I normal/thick switch.

Yes, me too. But also, the Mark V was released in 2009. Bit late to get your feature requests in! :rofl

It’s all about gain staging. I’ve found rectos to be quite quiet amps, but that’s because I generally run the gain around noon and use a boost in front with a gate in front and in the loop.

Oh for sure..and they kinda corrected that on the Mark VII which seems to use an extra gain stage in the VII mode on ch2. But the Mark V's Mk1 and Tweed modes are cool enough that I'd miss them. Plus fuck paying like 4400+ euros for the VII!

It's a bit of a shame that we might never see as complex amps as these again.

For me, even when I dial the amp in specifically to make it work.... I don't really like the Mark I mode as much as Edge and Crunch. I just pretend it isn't there to be honest.

Nah; I think there will always be a market for this kind of amp.

The truth is, real amps just sound better than modellers. And people will always want features.

I think Mk1 mode works best as a mid gain lead tone, and gets worse if you try to push too much gain into it. It really hogs the GEQ to get all that excess bass out of it, so it's hard to make it work together with the 3rd channel.

Atm my amp is set for Tweed - Crunch - MKIV.

I think the problem is that manufacturers just don't make amps this complex anymore because people are fine with the typical 1-3 channel amp with not a lot of bells and whistles. Even the Mark VII cut out the single ended mode, rectifier options etc.

Interesting. I'm fat, crunch, MKIV. I don't need the gain of the Extreme mode.

Are you rolling back the volume on tweed for super clean stuff???

I'm not sure about that to be honest. I think there's quite a few newer amps - say, in the last 5-6 years - that have a similar level of complexity. Revv Generator MKIII which has a 4 channel version, and then two 3 channel versions where you get the purple or red channels.... Diezel VHX.... what else?? I'm sure there's quite a few. But those are the two that spring to mind.

The Mark VII cut quite a few cool things, but I bet it is still sick as fuck.

Tonight at practice I took my Dual Recto and the Mark V. I wanted to try a few combos. The entire band thought that the Mark V sounded a gajillion times better than the Dual Recto. I did too. But it was worth trying out both. It is such a great amp, I genuinely really love it.
