Tele non compensated saddle surprise?!

I just got this beautiful 2018 Fender AO 60s tele. I immediately changed the strings (9s to 10s) and swapped the stock saddles to compensated. Got everything set up to my liking, but noticed something unexpected.

Intonation seemed a little off. So I put the stock saddles back. Wow…it was a lot better. I wasn’t expecting that at all.

ive never really had a particularly bad time with stock steels on my '72. you might just think some guitarists just like to complain about telecasters

Some of the compensation saddle are so exaggerated they are worse than straight ones. The best ones that are easily available, sound good and not expensive are the gotoh “ in tune” series.
