Synergy Owners Thread

So both the Drect and JMP arrived- good first impressions.

The JMP is really loud I have to turn the syn1 down a lot.
I assume this is due to the 0-watt power amp?

I had an open box JMP from Sweetwater and the red channel wasn’t nearly as loud as the other one. Had to turn the master on that channel all the way up to get it close to the other channel at about half. The amp also blew a fuse while playing on the red channel. Your comments pretty much confirms for me that there was something definitely wrong with that channel. I sent that one back, but will probably get another one sometime next year.

The module sounds pretty good from what I’ve tried. Plenty of gain (more than the original plexi). The bright switches definitely add some flexibility to it.

I’ve since watched a couple of videos and from what I can see people are setting the channel volume lower.

Just started with the synergy system And absolutely love the flexibility. Getting loads of different sounds.

I have a selection of tube (pre) amps and vintage fx gear although I also like genome and bias x. Especially for the FX.

I've made one setup with the cabsim
One with the Poweramp in genome
And one with a 8008 marshall

The last one wins ;)
I'm in the process of changing tubes in a spydervalve bogner powersection I'm expecting a lot from that one.

Hope to learn a lot here ;)

The Poweramp you use definitely makes a huge difference in how well the Synergy preamps will work.

Absolutely
With the DSL i love to push the power stage and keep pre amp gain low. Gives a much tighter sound

I have been playing my 7 string guitars (active pickups) exclusively for the past year. In that time, I began using the Synergy system. I always thought the SLO II had a bit too much gain. I had to keep the gain fairly low to achieve the sounds I wanted. Yesterday, I plugged in my 'tele' and was blown away at how responsive this guitar/amp combo is. The gain knob on the SLO II now has a much larger usable range. I'm amazed at the sounds I'm getting. Beautiful edge of breakup. The Synergy ecosystem is probably the best amp purchase I ever made, so versatile.

One of the biggest things I’ve noticed with the synergy system (or tube amps) compared to say modelling is the way it reacts to different guitars. All the little nuances such as type of pickups/pickup height seem to make a difference.

I don’t notice it as much with digital which might be down to that you have to watch the level going into the devices or it is too easy to add digital input signal.

I found another JMP and it arrived about 45 minutes before rehearsal. I popped it in and just pulled up my bank of Axe-FX presets that I use with the Killer Kali and it sounded killer. A bit softer in the high end and not as modern as the Kali, but combined with my RG with Fishman modern pickups and fresh strings it was the most versatile setup I have played through. It just fits in my band mix just as nicely and might even sound better at a venue. I’m so glad I found one for a decent price!

My only problem is that it is too wide to fit on my 1x12s that I have to use for our New Years gig due to lack of room onstage. It will see some action when we book somewhere that I can take a 4x12 to.

I really think my GAS is completely cured!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Would be interested in more thoughts about the JMP vs Kali differences.

These are first impressions and I’m going to head out to the studio in a bit and get to know the JMP a bit more. Kali is a modern take on that voicing, and I say has a similar voice when you have the mid switch up. More gain with the Kali and it will get more upper harmonic and highs than the JMP. Both mix well with the band, but JMP has a bit more rounded off highs. Kali has more gain stages, so the two volumes control that, whereas the JMP is like a jumpered Plexi with normal and treble channels. I plan on experimenting with the bright switches more today to dial in my sweet spot.

I set mine with the treble volume up quite a bit and bring in the normal to add thickness. For rhythms, the treble is pretty high and I add normal to taste. Leads I add more normal in and lower the bass and up the mids a bit.

On the Kali, I like the mids switch down for rhythm and for leads I have it with the mids switch up there are similarities to the JMP, but with a more modern aggressive tone and more highs on tap.

I’m running them with an Axe-FX, and use a drive to tighten and slightly boost at the inputs and can cover quite a range of sounds with either amp. They are close enough in voicings that I can use the same bank of patches for both preamps, but the Kali is more modern hard rock and metal, and the JMP is a bit more classic rock and can get some nice old school metal tones.

I did some recording today with our singer/rhythm guitarist using the JMP. We plugged her Tele in and I went for a more vintage sounding low to mid-gain tone with most of the tone controls near the middle and no bright switches engaged. I used 60s mode for her tracks. Took about 90 seconds to dial in a great sound for her to put her tracks down.

After she left I got to play around with dialing in my tone better, and dayum, this thing gets some great high gain tones when it ou get it set up that way. I set the BMT with more extreme settings and had the bright switch in the lower position and it has some serious bite and still sound full. I had the gain considerably higher of course and went with 70s mode to get a bite more edge and tightness.

Looking forward to hearing the final mix, but I’m still writing my part and spent about an hour practicing before I decided it was time for a lunch break.

This JMP can get a wide range of tones, and sounds great with the Fractal drives. I have a tendency to try lots of different emulations, but almost always go back the Maxoff 808 with drive on zero and level set to taste for the patch.

I'm trying to dcide between a few options for my next module:
OS
Z Wreck
T-DLX

I already have the Tone King Imperial Pre to do the Delux-ish kinda thing. So I'm leaning OS and Z Wreck because They're a different flavor of low and mid gain. Also will get either Fryette module if I see something below new price.
