Synergy Owners Thread

Note that there's also a few differentiators:

SLO 100 with Suhr Reactive Load vs Synergy with its own load.

When he switches quickly between the two they sound closer than earlier in the video.

Still, I'd say both sound like a SLO. You are going to have compromises with the 20W power section, and maybe a different structure option would have helped, or using the same loadbox on both.
FWIW, I have two Synergy rigs, an SLO 30, and both SLO and SLOII modules.

When I first got the 'II' I shot all that stuff out (I ran the SLO and SLOII modules at the same time in the Syn2 with the loop of the SLO30), so basically they are all using the same 'SLO' power amp and cab and you can switch them instantly.

Using that setup, I convinced myself that there are definite audible differences between the Syn modules and the SLO's preamp if you can switch between them instantly. Between the two Syn modules, I also concluded, that the OG SLO module is the more similar of the two SLO modules to the SLO's preamp in OD mode out of the box.

That said, they are all 'SLOish' enough, though.

Being a long time Synergy fan; I don't consider it shocking or anything that they aren't completely indistinguishable when A/B'd. That said, if you dialed them in and then set it to one or the other I don't think I would be able to tell them apart unless you allowed me to switch quickly back and forth to bear out differences. Not planning on ever bothering doing that again, though.

Lately I have been pretty into the II module with the LXII in 100W mode, because, hell yes.

If I were to buy Synergy, I would probably want the purple SLO module just for the color.

All that ultimately matters is which sounds best to you.

You could always get someone to make you a custom faceplate. Or if you're up for it attempt to make your own. That's what I did. Top right module is actually a Synergy Bman that I made a new plate for and covered it with a custom graphic. I could have used the original plate, but didn't want to mess it up in case I wanted to put it back to stock look at some point.

'nuff said!

Really cool video, thanks!

I would love to see you do a comparison between the Killer Kali, Uberschall, Powerball, 6505, IIC+ and DRECT modules. Something like a simple riff where the attack characteristic can be easily heard, reamped through the modules. I do believe that most amps (real or modelled) can be made to sound almost identical to each other through detailed tone-matching; so the definitive differentiating factor is the attack (eg. SLO vs Mark vs Marshall): tight, smooth, aggressive, blurry, etc. (adjectives poorly describe the actual sound and feel).

Interestingly, you obtained "better" tones (IMO) when using modelers. I found the tones in your videos kind of thin, trebly and edgy (typically what most people would associate with modelers actually!). No offense. Still, I bought this head because it seems to be a lot of fun.

Interesting, what are you monitoring through? Phone, tablet, smartwatch? That's the first time anybody has said that, that's why I ask.

Lol.

Sorry, I made a typo and added an "s" to "your videos" while I meant "your video" = this video in particular.

I really like otherwise the tones you are getting in all your other videos (real amps or modelers) and I am a fan of your channel. I listened again and there's definitely a "bzz" frequency in the attack that is bothering me (in both modules) but that's just me - my ears. I did not pick that up in other videos.

(I'm monitoring through a pair of Genelec 8341 A with a 7360A subwoofer, calibrated with GML in an acoustically treated studio.)

I have a used SYN-1 with an OG SLO module incoming. This will be my first personal experience with the Synergy ecosystem - looking forward to giving it a shot!

While waiting for my SYN-1 and OG SLO module to arrive, I just bought a used - but said to be as new - (OG) BE module. I know it's not as flexible as the BE Deluxe or the BB/BE, but at the price I got it for (the equivalent of 110 USD today) I figured it had to be worth it.

I've never had a real Friedman BE, but at least I really enjoyed the BE model on my Axe-FX II.
