String Gauge ?

I use D'Addario EXL110 10 - 46 for standard, drop D, 1/2 step down and drop C#. I use these on all of my guitars regardless of scale length.

I spent most of my playing life touting thicker wires. I think I may explore lighter gauges
for pretty much the first time in my life and see how that goes. Lighter strings = need a
lighter touch, and maybe that will make me a better player, or open up some new avenues. :idk

I need to thank EVH for this. :love

if you have a light touch there is no reason not to use light strings, but don't expect to go from 10s to 9s down a half step without a period of adjustment. For me my picking hand likes 10's up and my fret hand likes 9's but I regularly play 9's through to 11's depending on the guitar.

Well, colour me purple. The new MIJ Fender Aerodyne I have been
playing came with .009 to .042 strings on it.

IMO a 40-42 low E is crucial for the right EVH tone, doesn't sound right going heavier.

And a thin to medium pick too! :)

A quick Unchained with a 040 E (EB 8.5-40 set)

Unch.aif

Eb usually 9.5-44 or 10-46
E usually 9-42 or 9.5-44

One guitar currently in D standard I think using 10-46
One guitar tuned to B standard using 12-56 or something
One guitar tuned to F (and a little sharp) using 9-42 (because I'm trying to work on old Smiths songs)
