Stephen Carpenter Rig Rundown

What would y’all say the BEST Deftones album is? I like heavy music, if it’s slow and droning it usually doesn’t catch my attention and turns into background music
Slow and droning is kinda their thing though. Breathy vocals, Abe slamming the drumkit. In the best ways slow and droning can be. White Pony is elite heavy sexytime music, Adrenalin and Around the Fur are young band taking baby steps into their own heavy nu while showing glimmers of their own thing and where they will ultimately go.

Great summary.

Ad & ATF were like talking a look at the ingredients. WP was when the pie came out of the oven.

While I may not be overly keen on all their tunes, I don't think I've ever heard anything I would change about Abe's choice of drum sounds and beats across everything I've heard.

I’m still loving mine. It’s a great amp that covers more ground than you’d expect but for high it’s the best amp I’ve had in that category especially for its clarity and feel that I think a lot high amps fall short on.
A friend of mine has the Uber Synergy module, and I agree, while it does the heavy thing so well, and I don't play metal or heavy music, it also does the lower/mid gain thing extremely well, IMO, and if I were to go to Synergy, I'd have no problem using just that module.

P.S. - I agree with Stephen about the Helix. Snapshots has absolutely RUINED me for any other switching paradigm. Between that and the Poly Capo, I can't NOT have an HX device in my chain at all times.

White pony is definitely the best one, I actually like the self titled after that though most people don’t like that one. Around the fur,and diamond eyes are great too. You really can’t go wrong with any of their albums

Agree! I have a big Helix as well and IMHO it’s by far the best user experience in that world and I love its effects. That said… I have an HX One for my traditional boards for the poly capo mainly. All the other “digital capos” suck hard and that includes Fractal and QC and the Digitech Drop

Of course White Pony is a classic. The later albums in no particular order Saturday Night Wrist, Koi No Yokan, Diamond Eyes, and Private Music are all great IMHO

He’s an amazing drummer and I would even venture to say he makes the band way better rhythmically. I don’t think I’d like them as much if it wasn’t for him.

I honestly don’t use many effects at all, and mostly it’s stuff I sprinkle in, like chorus, for my own enjoyment more than anything else, so, I’ve thought quite a bit about using a minimal board, with an HX One for poly capo, but unfortunately, that is cutting it down a little too much.

I got confused at this part; does the AxeFX 2 not have Scenes? I only jumped in with the III, but what he was describing with the Snapshots is exactly what Scenes do in a Fractal unit.

Honestly, based on that video I wouldn’t expect him to have much awareness of the finer points of the devices. The Helix was more than likely just the first piece of gear he tried that had something gapless and he just ran with it.
