Some pedals incoming

Yeah, with certain effects I can definitely set it and forget it, it’s the dirt pedals that I’m constantly fiddling with due to experimenting with the Plexi and how many different ways you can dial them in. Chorus, delays, phase, vibe, etc are all pretty much set and forget outside of tempos and even then, I doubt I’ll set the EVH90 any differently.

I’ll surely swap out dirt pedals over time on this board, but everything else will most likely stay put. I’m just going to start another board when I finish this one to put that ‘I need a new pedal’ energy somewhere! :rofl The current board will be the non-metal/modeling board, the next one will be a bit more modern with the VP4 and more suited toward replacing my FM9 board.
Dirt pedals and me are a pretty new phenomenon. Started with the Badlander but definitely bloomed outwards big time with the Multiwatt. The Marks are not changing that trend either :ROFLMAO: I find if anything; I don't change the dirt settings on existing pedals; I just add another pedal to the pile using different settings

:rollsafe:oops::brick:rofl

They can pry my boost out of my cold, dead hands.

It’s definitely a new thing for me as well, though I’ve been buying them for the last 3 years. Only having the AxeFX to work with previously I didn’t really have a need to figure anything out, I just bought them for the sake of buying some pedals. Now that I’m in the Plexi world there’s allllll kinds of fun to be had with them. I know I’ve gotten closer to defining ‘mah tone’ as a result of using dirt pedals instead of amp distortion.

Such a slippery slope

Hahahah I’ll take this slippery slope over the others I’ve ran and jumped on in the past. I can always justify a pedal purchase with “Yeah, it was $150 but I’ll have this forever unlike all those 8balls I used to buy that were gone in one night for the same price or more!” :rofl

Finally plugged the TC in tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if I never touch the knobs on it, it's perfect right where they are. Kinda wanted to learn some Police songs right out of the gate. I've got it before the preamp and am now wondering if putting it in the loop all these years is what gave me the idea it sounds thin on distortion. I could see myself tossing this on some leads here and there to stand out a bit more instead of going just for the chorus sound.

All that's left for pedals on my list is the a flanger (it'll be the EVH or the PastFX Elastic Mistress) and delay, then it's utility stuff like the loop switcher, power supply and a patchbay.

There's definitely some charm to plugging in a bunch of pedals and seeing how they interact that you don't get to experience with modeling gear.

I still don’t think the interactions between pedals work nearly as well in modeling gear as it does with analog pedals. Something happens when you start stacking pedals on top of each other that just doesn’t work the same way in digital.

Dirt pedals and country tones? Welcome to my world!

Yeah, I’d imagine there’s a bit of imperfection wrapped up in pedal interactions that doesn’t get modeled. I’d also have to think there’s something to account for buffered/non-buffered pedals somewhere along the way?

As for country/dirt pedals, the Tchula IS my favorite dirt pedal and it’s Josh Smith’s always-on pedal. Hahahah and my frame of reference for “country” is pretty much Brad Paisley, Keith Urban and The Hellecasters. I don’t think any of those guys even have an actual clean sound, they just roll a volume knob back!

Brad Paisley’s Time Well Wasted album is pretty much my home-base for tone. Any time I’m testing a new amp, drive pedal, or guitar country is always my litmus test. If it sounds good for country I know it will get me what I want for everything else.

I haven’t tried the Tchula yet, I’ll have to check one out! My current go-to is the 30th Anniversary ODR-1 and the Morning Glory

I’ll let you know next time there’s an SNS sale with Lovepedal, he’s almost always got a Tchula going for $100, opposed to finding them for $150-$200 on Reverb. There’s different versions and it’s another pedal, like the Dover Drive, that I want to collect them all. My only gripe is there’s a good volume boost with it and no knobs to adjust anything, I’d like it more if it could do what it does at unity gain but it probably wouldn’t do what it does then and that’s most likely why it’s an always-on pedal for many.

I have it on the whole time until I turn on the Dover Drive here, going into an edge of breakup Bassman model-

That period was the precursor to what I’m up to now with the Marshall and tones in that ballpark. The second I got my hands on those Strats everything changed pretty quickly and the chugga chugga stuff has to share its time with me now.

I just need to figure out what the hell to do with it. I’ve been getting all this gear without having any real goal aside from being able to achieve the tones I dig, but I have nowhere to use them yet!

I feel seen! The wall of face ripping amps in my jam room realllllllly need somewhere to stretch at least one of their legs! :satan

Yeah, this is why I’m hoping to find a classic rock band that isn’t dead set on gigging every single weekend. Any other time and you don’t see anything else but classic rock bands looking for guitarists, now that I have the gear to accommodate it’s barren!

I would be fine with gigging 4x a year tops and practicing once before said 4 gigs :bag

Hahahah that sounds like the band I’m already in, just swap “gigging” for “practicing” :rofl

There’s a ton of bands looking for “someone to jam with, no gigs this is just for fun” but I know I’d be sick of that by the 4th practice because I’ve got limited bandwidth for sitting in practice spaces playing the same songs over and over.
