I agree. I'd give both a place post fuzz/pitch, but still before the amp.

Fuzz is something I am so not optimized to be able to do, as far as the rest of my normal rig, but still would love to try. Humbuckers, it wouldn't be in front of the chain, I don't want to try the Carcosa (which seems to be the only fuzz anyone recommends with a humbucker loaded guitar).

Yeah I have the big deluxe russian muff with the wicker/parametric mid EQ thing and its pretty cool. My unexpected favorite feature is the blend knob. Blending the muff fuzz tone in to an otherwise normal guitar signal going to a broken up amp sounds REALLY interesting. I need to use that pedal more. It helps with the "this fuzz is a mute box in a live band environment" problem.

Keep in mind all fuzz is not the same. A Big Muff and a Fuzz Face are about as similar as a Deluxe Reverb and a JCM800.

Just like amps, there are various camps/categories of fuzz and they’re all very different from one another.

There are a few other options out there for fuzz that works anywhere in the signal chain. Silktone and the Benson Germanium Fuzz are two that come to mind

MkII Bender is probably my favorite fuzz for humbuckers. I hate Big Muffs with humbuckers.

Hot take: get yourself a Source Audio drive pedal (LA Lady, Kingmaker, Aftershock) and see which fuzzes float yer boat. And yes, they're surprisingly close.

After realizing Gilmour was able to get all those killer tones over the years running everything in front of his amps I had a bit more enthusiasm for doing the same. The Plexi definitely aided in that, being that the loop will just make everything sound like distorted ass (though I haven’t actually tried it myself….gotta do that).

Ideally, I’d put the delays after the amp just because they’re easier to manage/dial in, but chorus, flange, phase and vibe is all up front. Most of the time in the Fractal stuff it’s all in front of the amp as well, though I’ve put some choruses after it. Trem effects I almost always put after the amp because I prefer the hard start/stop effect and that seems to do the trick.
