Soldano X88-IR

Rock n roll

The crunch mode on this seems like a lot of gain and "light overdrive" would not be there. Is that accurate for those of you who have tried it out?

Speaking of AxeFx3, the X88 model is noticeably thinner than the SLO-100 model. Is that true IRL?

Hmmm, I didn't changed anything in the power amp section of the X88. I remember glancing at it to make sure there was a power amp but don't remember how it was configured.
I'm saying make sure what they use in the power amp tab for the SLO 100 is the same as the X88

It goes from crunch old school to overdrive perfectly in the crunch mode.

Best way to use it?
My first intention is to use it four cable with an axe3 and a matrix gt1000 with the X88ir cab sims. I have a variety of cabs starting with Xitone passive f12x200 loaded wedges for "FRFR" . Then a pair of mesa thiele EVs , recto 2x12 and a Marshall 4x12 that was built for me . Vintage style all ply but old British made V30s. I no longer have a tube power amp but the sim in the 88 fixes that. My favourite was the vht classic but it’s huge and needs to be loud as hell. I replaced it with a 2/50/2 but I sold it too. I’m inclined towards the fr fr approach to keep the volume out of the equation but I will explore all of it . I have access to a few tube power amps at my friends studio so I can see if that’s something I need or not. He has some mesa and fryettes . Also I can try it in the loop of an SLO.
