SLO-100 vs OG 5150

The reality of it, there's not been much true innovation in tube amp design since the early days. There's only so many ways you can design them. Gain staging and eq, etc is where the differences are noticeable. A tweak here, a tweak there, more channels... but it's still just a tube amp. Nothing wrong with that of course!
While that’s true, Friedman also ripped off Marshall’s trade-dress as well; same font, same cab style of the older Marshalls. Then has the balls to say “well golly, I don’t like the black and gold either, but it’s what the customers wanted!”

Put them through the same cab and there's even more similarities.

I don't know about you guys, but I certainly feel that an SLO (on the overdrive channel) and a 5150 (on the lead channel) can sound quite similar. But by similar, I mean similar in terms of them being thick, compressed, (relatively) dark amps that have that condensed mids kinda high-gain sound. They can both sound quite different, but there's definitely common ground. Having said that, I'd say the 5150 sounds more raw and wild, whereas the SLO sounds a bit more refined and versatile. The other two channels are quite dissimilar IMO, and I don't think a lot of folks use a 5150 for the first two channels although the SLO has way more useable clean and crunch channels. But the third channel on each of them does have similarities.

He of all people DEFINITELY knows better.
I feel like he kinda acts a bit disingenuous because his clientele is all "hurr durr real amps loud cabs 80s was the best decade ever". He indulges in a lot of nostalgia, which makes me think that he does, in fact, believe in the things he says. But he does come across as someone who took a stance on the internet and now has to stick to it because his brand image is such.

I acknowledge this as a skinny fat bald 50s guy :ROFLMAO:
I acknowledge his douch baggery as I myself am another in his 50’s fat-ish (nowhere near Dave big) douche bag but with long hair. 😂

"I don't like modelers! Buy my bass heavy turd 200lb powered speaker!"
I’m more offended that he claims his amps sound like classic Marshalls than his opinions on modelers.

I mean, I ain’t Brad Pitt either. 🤣

I will have to say though he does run his company well when it comes to customer service…IME anyway. I don’t buy his amps but I have used other things he sells and he’s always been great supporting his product. His online podcast persona though I could definitely live without.

Always heard nothing but STELLAR feedback regarding his support.

I don't doubt that at all. I also like a couple of his amps. He's just one of those people that just shouldn't be in the social media-sphere.

I try not to get caught up in what people say outside of their businesses, and their opinions on various topics. Nobody's perfect and I can handle strong views I don't necessarily agree with. I'm more interested in the product and passion they put behind it. Friedman definitely makes a great product and has awesome customer support by most accounts. Nothing bad to say about my Runt20 either.

Yeah actually the Runts are my favorites from him, both the 20 and 50.
