Anyone use the SD powerstage for guitar? As in an amp for a modeler.

Have no idea why but they’ve always intrigued me. Then today I got the email pushing this:

Powerstage 700 bass

Picture so @FuzzyAce can follow the topic:

I've got the PS-170, I can't think of anything to gripe about it outside the price. I think it was $400, while I got the TC Electronics BAM200 for $160 @200watts.

I'd imagine this will sound pretty decent, I'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to fuck up a bass amp these days. Even those Fender Rumbles sound great and they're cheap as hell.

My big appeal is just the size/weight. I love my Gallien Kruger amp, but light weight it is not. 😆

I have the PS700 and have no complaints, either. Price is crazy high, though.

That sent me down a rabbit hole... think I might pick one of these up. How do you think it will take to heavy distortion from a modeler?

It’s a matter of whether you are in the headroom limits of the amp. Heavy distorted bass tones at loud band gig volume and I’d probably want more than 200 watts personally.

Works great! It’s exactly what I use it for! It’s got a bit more fine-tuning capabilities than the Powerstage!

I’ve had positive experiences using a BAM 200 with Helix and Tonex direct captures. I keep the BAM in the pouch of my Helix backpack as a backup when I gig.

Ordered a BQ250 cause I like the additional mid controls it has over the BAM. Toyed with using it for the festival gig today. Then I was yesterday years old when I learned it only has a Speakon out, no actual speaker cable. So… almost sent it back, but ordered a Speakon adapter that may or may not show up in time for me to demo it before leaving for the gig…

Thankfully my full rig hasn’t failed me yet, so no worries on that part. Just trying to save some pain rushing our gear off the stage after our set.

Got a Speakon adapter to try it out. Of course it showed up after I had packed all my gear for the gig, but I grabbed my backup bass and a drive pedal just to make sure it works. Definitely punchy.

Will have fun messing with it in the next few days and see if it’s a keeper.
