Reverb's most sold product in 2024 was the NDSP Quad Cortex

This forum was setup explicitly for QC hate.

Change My Mind.

<ducks>

Not exactly, but it’s fair to say it was by way of the QC.

The bannings at TGP surrounding the discussion of it just made us say “Ok, we’ll take our ball and go build our own ballpark”

I don’t think there’s a ton of people who shit on the QC itself, the majority of ire is at NDSP as a company. I don’t think any logical person would say the QC is a shitty device or can even say it doesn’t sound great at this point. I think many logical people can say NDSP sounds like shit when they open their mouths.

IMO there's absolutely no way around admitting that the QC is a pretty nice device, even so much it's the perfect modeler for some folks. It combines a lot of things making it really "workable" in many situations. For example, it's possibly the best floor unit to also work in desktop mode, as a standalone and on a pedalboard, pretty much a goldilocks form factor device regarding that. Add to this that, unlike with other units, the switches don't go wasted when used on your desktop. Really, if a desktop unit and "no editor required" were high on my list, the QC would be *the* undisputable champ for me.
I also even thought it sounded pretty nice straight from the start, just that it was falling short in terms of variety.
Now, there's some severe shortcomings which will likely never make me buy a QC (unless I'd need a desktop-only unit one day), but these don't seem to affect too many other folks.

Really, for me, in the end it's just the company.

I like my QC and I could also probably sell my QC and not miss it that much.

You know what's odd, if I never went online and just was picking a modeler, I'd probably be quite happy with the QC. It generally does what I need it to and is easy to use. A lot more so than the Fractal gear, which really benefits from being hooked up to a computer editor.

However, when I didn't have my Fractal gear, I would get big time FOMO when there were new updates, everyone talking about it, and then the Leon Todd videos. It's not so much the actual updates as much as it is the steady drip of new content.

Anyone else feel that way too?

Similar.

With the Fractal stuff, I get really caught up in all of the possibilities, and how I could super simplify my rig and have it all in one box. I start imagining I could even go over to modelling full time, and just use a valve poweramp... but the illusion is often shattered by complexity, using the hardware standalone, and in general finding other gear more instant gratification, less daunting, and more creative-through-limitations - for me. My opinion. No Mitchellisms required.

The FOMO kind of stopped for me recently when I just started trialing the NDSP plug-ins , I learned that I could live with just the SLO or the Gojira EVH for 90% of my playing

I honestly have not updated the FM9 or turned it on since November before we went south on vacation .

I will be updating and playing it in a couple weeks as my buddy that lent me his interface is back so that should be an interesting experience and a good indicator of if I missed the Fractal or not
