Putting yourself out there kinda sucks

I have this idea of a trio with a female vocalist to play non-mainstream/unknown rock blues covers of great songs, possibly rearranged, but I haven’t been able to find the right people. And even after two+ years, the idea is still there, teasing me. And will be there untill I'll make it happen.
I've got your singer:

Been working with our 2nd guitarist here and there. As well as working on my own rig for this project incrementally. FM3 plus external pedals has been going good* but I am very torn as of late. I'm dialing presets in using my Mesa Rectifier in Modern Mode as a power amp through either my Mesa C90 2x12 or my EVH C90 loaded 112.

*Problem is through the 5150 and bass 412 cab loaded with Jensen speakers at the jam spot; it's a night and day difference. As well as having some other issues in either my guitar jack or the pedalboard that I can't quite sort.

Not to even mention the Rectifier lamp somehow burnt out over the last day or two and my Mk III combo still has a volume drop that I seem to be really good at avoiding fixing.

I really need to just get back in the jam room and these overthinking sessions will calm down. Hopefully.

Not sure how I missed this topic, but glad you’re doing it.

:rawk

Go look at my fever dreams thread. I was on the fence like you were, and we’re about to hit the studio for our second full length album.

Life is too short to not chase what makes you feel alive.

As long as it doesn’t involve @FuzzyAce touching you inappropriately. No one needs that life.

Thank you sir! :beer I'm mainly ready to see where we sit after next Monday's jam session :nails

Can't remember if I mentioned it here, but after I posted an ad in a FB group for metal musicians, a woman hit me up and asked if I'd consider a duo thing. While totally NOT what I was going for, I've actually wanted to do something like this for a long time and just kinda figured it'd happen when I found a female vocalist along the way. She's a great singer and so far seems to be a logical human being. We're meeting at the dog park this week.

And not a peep from any metal heads. Even worse, Piper's, my favorite watering hole, closed it's doors 2 weeks ago out of the blue. I legit shed a tear, I've had so many good times in that place and it was a huge reason I even wanted to play in a band again. We got a couple other, lesser-known dive bars that cater to rock/metal, but nothing will ever be like Piper's. Nor will anything be 2 miles from my door.

Lots of reactions to this. Bummer on the club closure, but I bet the duo will be a great option provided she turns out to be a good fit personality wise.

Losing a venue is a tough one. So many things to take the wind out of the metal sails and this one can be unfortunately pivotal. We are still set to have our first 2 guitar jam this Monday provided snow hell on earth cooperates. I do know that partial group or no practices don't do anything to get things going. Ugh.

I really wish the owner would have let everyone know it was in danger, I gladly would have gone over more than I did and I don't think I'd be alone with that. It also could have been a surprise to him, if his lease was up and it was time to renew, I know those buildings aren't cheap to rent at all.

And yeah, those partial group practices really only work when there's something to focus on and too many of them can lead to a quick burnout due to never really hearing the effort paying off. Good luck with the snow!

I'm thinking along the lines of a Casualties Of Cool/Devin Townsend/Anneke kinda thing, more electronic based with beats and then some acoustic/electrics over the top of it. She also plays acoustic and seems down with the idea as well. I should probably put some music together so we have something to work on right away....

Does she want to do covers or all originals or...? Covers in that format can be cool as the audience knows they are going to be reworked versions due to the 2 piece aspect.

Saying you're doing it ≠ doing it

3rd time cancellation for wrestle metal. All legit reasons (sickness, work schedule changes, weather). No ability to change the practice date because of strict work schedule for one person. Not doing partial jams without new second guitarist because that's just dumb. We still have not gotten together once with the new guy. I have one more time in me then I am moving on.

There's a point where saying you have the gear and saying you are going to practice is absolutely meaningless if you aren't actually doing it. Sigh.

Just read thread.

A Wrestle-metal-mania sounds really cool!

I did a hired gun gig once for a band called The Jersey Syndicate at Crocodile Rock in Allentown and we opened for Big Noise.

Carlos Cavazo was really kind and asked me about my homemade MM Axis meets Peavey Wolfgang at the time.

We did our set, I was only piped in when I did solos (laughs) and I never heard from Jersey Syndicate again.

I always thought it was commentary I did a bad job. (Someone suggested I did too good of a job and stepped on egos - but I doubt that)

Its really hard to find a group of bandmates that gel. If you do, put differences aside and enjoy the fact you click musically and can make things work.

Solo artistry/hired gun work is not the same as a band that clicks.

I don’t actually know that yet, she’s got some originals on her FB page so I’m assuming that’s more her goal, but she seems pretty easy going and the only way we’re going to get into any gigs that aren’t open mic nights is by playing a bunch of covers!
What's up with the other lady/ladies you've met at the dog park?

Hahahah man, it’s crazy how quickly things can change over the course of a few weeks. The first one I spoke of disappeared for like 2-3 weeks and when I saw her again there was a sprinkling of red flags/inconsistencies in her reasoning for the disappearing act and that’s an automatic no-go for me. I called it out with a laugh, she got a bit red in the face and instead of making it awkward I just said “No big deal, we barely know each other, but I definitely require more direct communication than you seem to be able to give currently”, she nodded and that was that. We still hang at the dog park and text occasionally, but that’s most definitely not going anywhere.

The other one, who works here at the campus, everyone already thinks we’re a couple. We talk nonstop, if 30 mins go by without getting a text from her it’s because she’s busy, she comes over to my place every couple days and we’ve been taking turns cooking for each other, she cracks me up more than any other woman has been able to and we definitely don’t hold back when we talk, I’ve had deeper conversations with her than I have my best friends I’ve known for 30 years. She’s got some big life stuff to sort out before she could enter a meaningful relationship, which I believe is keeping the relationship aspect of things out of both of our minds. She’s also only 29 and when I’m reminded of that I give myself a big ole pause, but for now we’re enjoying each other’s company quite a bit and if nothing more came of it, I’d be perfectly happy with our friendship the way it is now.

I don't think anyone wants to start a band anymore. OR; I'm too old/bald/skinny-fat to where I am even seen as even less of an asset as I already was (not) :ROFLMAO:
