I play metal (ie,lamb of God, Chimaira) want to join/start a band. Do you think a single Peavey 6505+112 60 watt combo on an amp stand will do the trick or do you think I will need a 112 extension cab? I was also thinking about getting a second 6505 combo because there are a few in my area for sale and I could use it as a cab and a back up amp. I cannot fit a 412 cab in my vehicle and I feel the 6505 120 watt head is overkill for a small time metal band.

Would love to hear your thoughts

kinda depends on the size of shows youre playing and how much PA support you get. most sound guys can get the combo where it needs to be without much volume. but if you dont have one a 112 to generate much push can be a little challenging.

a decent 112 combo and closed 112 cab under it can be a great small rig. ive been using that last... gad.. almost twenty years, but i dont play metal.

itd definitely do something for volume and dispersion, and likely low end depending on what cab.

you could always start without it and see where youre at. its always harder to unspend money than not to spend it in the first place

The 6505+ 112 is a great amp and can be had for a decent price. I like the idea of just adding another one. Or you could add a good 2x12 cab like a Mesa horizontal. You could put the amp on top of the cab.

Ok did you think I will need an additional 112 or just stick with just the combo? Will adding a 112 do anything?
Yeah, it'll do something. It won't necessarily make it that much louder, if at all. But dispersion will be better, particularly if you stack the combo up onto the extension cab. IME, it lets the amp "breath" a bit more too.

I had one of these as my touring amp in the USA for a few years before I went to the fractal stuff. Loud enough for small rooms and sounded huge mic'd on bigger stages. I saw a few guys who had rehoused them as heads and used them with 4x12s which was cool too.

I had this exact amp, and it was loud on its own, but just barely enough to get over the drums. We were able to get by with it, but I would have preferred it through a 4x12.
