PRS SE - Amazing Consistency & Playability

Here’s a relative. Built December 1999, finished and labeled in January 2000

Very nice. Not a lot of those about. I think it was 2001 they went to wide fat, trem only for CE22s. Do you still have the original dragon ii in there or have you swopped them for something else?

All original other than the strings and TRC.:ROFLMAO:
I prefer the Dragon I’s in my Custom22.
The II’s in this one seem to suit it pretty well. They handle all of the tuning and string gauge changes nicely.

I overall like the DIIs in my cu22 but I do occasionally go back and forth if I want to swap them for something else

I had a SE, wanna say it was a 24. Orangish burst with a red back.
Didn't have it very long. Its one guitar I guess I never took a pic of.
Beautiful guitar to look at but I wasn't a fan of playing it.
Also, to this day, it was the heaviest guitar I had ever owned.

Going check out a DGT SE on Friday. One question I have for those that have the coil-split, how does it do for single coil tones? For the stuff we do, it would be nice to have something that sounds decent, but doesnt have to be Fender perfect. I've had 3 Fender strats and 2 squire strats and did not care for them too much after a few months. I was thinking of picking up a tele, but I have some reservations that I would like it in the beginning, but sour on it in a few months like I did with the strats. Plus, I can do all my own setups and electronic swaps so I may just start picking up parts for a Partscaster over the next year so I dont have a lot invested in something I may not like.

If I can get a PRS with 2 HB's, coil-split and a tremolo, it may cover everything I need (for now)

All humbucker split coil tones are kind of Meh compared to the real thing. I think if you
know that going in and are not expecting epic Strat or Tele tones then you'll be good. :beer

And if you don't like Strats or Teles all that much then the split coil tones may be the best! :banana

I bought a DGT SE last Spring and it is my primary guitar at practice the past few
months (mostly due to the cold weather and leaving a warm house, going into
a cold car, and then a warm garage, and then repeating back home again), and I dig
it quite a bit. More vintage PAF style humbucker tones, so not going to hammer
the front end of an amp, but I am cool with that. I keep it in Drop D.

It's a fun guitar.

I sold my SE silver sky recently :sofa:bag

Since you guys know more than me, I have heard that the tremolo system stays in tune pretty good, and the guitar itself stays in tune very well overall, as long as you are not divebombing a lot. I can also upgrade it later with a better system later if not, but I heard for a floating system, it's not bad compared to some of the other cheap systems out there and being the rhythm guitarist I dont need it much but would be nice to have. Also, not looking or need strat or tele tones, just something close when needed.

I think one of my main reasons looking at one of these is that our band had our first gig last weekend and it was a Toy For Tots fundraiser where there were 7 bands that played back to back for 45 min and then you tear down while the next one sets up. My LP with pretty new strings kept going out of tune more than usual during our set probably me being nervous and playing harder at times. Having to take time between songs pissed me off. Specifically that damn G string but others did too, lol...

I'm going to play it tomorrow and see how I like it.

I've had a few PRS guitars over the years. McCarty, Custom 24, a few core CEs. They were all really well made, played great etc, I have nothing negative to say about them but they just didn't do it for me.

I'd LOVE to like them because the company is local to me, literally 1hr away from my house. And I like supporting local businesses, but unfortunately I couldn't bond with them.

I've never owned a SE though. BUT I recently played a S2 Custom that I actually liked it alright. Almost bought it.

Speaking of guitars made here in Maryland, have you guys ever tried a Knaggs? I played a Knaggs Kenai recently and OMG what a guitar. Very expensive (the one I tried was $6k) but damn :love

I went and played it and as of now, my GAS has subsided. Nice guitar, played well, nothing stuck out as undesirable, but just something about it did not give me the "WOW" feels.

The only 2 things I really did not care for. The first is the neck shape, I think I would prefer it to be a little thinner. The second is the placement of the forward volume knob. When strumming, I kept hitting it with my pinky. Picking was no issue, but I'm the rhythm player in our band and sometimes to separate dynamics from our lead, I have to dig in a little more and when I did I would hit that volume knob with the bottom of my hand. I'm sure both of these things I can get use to with more time with it.

Played the DGT SE exclusively Thursday night at practice. I still have other guitars I like
better for various reasons and applications, but I sure did have a blast with it Thursday.
I was thinking of you, @Byrdman . I wanted to hammer it hard and see if it held up.

Stayed in tune great. Sounded great. I think it is good all arounder. Like white bread, but
home baked. :beer

I have 2 different PRS Core guitars and right now the DGT SE is getting the little bit of PRS
love I have in my heart.

I'm definitely going to try a few other models to see if I like them better. Maybe a 24 or CE.

New ones are on sale at my local guitar store and I'm sure I'll find a deal on one I like.

I may get a charcoal one and put better PU's in. I said it before, but I'd love to find a Dave Navarro Sig in good condition, but all I've seen are either sky high or beat up.

You never hit your pinky on the volume knob?

Now that I think about it, It's probably because I'm so use to laying my picking Palm across the bridge to mute and it's too close to the bridge.
