Powering a HB ISO 5 with a Power Bank

Long story short.

Our bands rehearsal space is in an outhouse where the guy feeds the power from his parents house, and daisychains his wall power sockets from the last one. One day I was using my pedalboard as normal then certain pedals go dead. All my digital pedals no longer work...period.

Can I power a Harley Benton ISO 5 with a power bank? So I can bypass this issue going forward?

And if so, does it matter what power bank it is? As long as it covers the mA of the pedals? And I guess it'd be a 5v to 12v connector cable from the bank to the ISO 5?

We're still using the rehearsal space as it's affordable.

They are excellent PSUs and I would think the Harley Benton power bricks would work well.
I haven’t tried any with my HB PSUs but it’s something I keep meaning to do.

Did you get this sorted? I have the same HB power supply and was toying with the idea of using a power bank for extra mobility. I’ve been thinking to use USB-C Power Delivery with one of these cables and a polarity inverter:

I have a USB-A cable that converts from 5V but it’s not reliable and can’t handle 1A (which it should spec wise).

Years ago I bout a Chinese brand power brick off Amazon and a 5v to 9v volt convertor and used this to power my pedalboard fine. I can't see why you couldn't do the same for the Harley Benton - as long as you supply it the correct voltage it requires.

A power brick intended for iPhones was much cheaper than a one intended for guitars, and had a much bigger mAh rating

Out of fear of frying my Power Supply, and lack of self-esteem in my own decisions...I opted to drop the search for a solution. Until now maybe, that may the right connecter providing it's centre negative. I have no idea if a power bank would deliver too much than the 2A needed though, or would the HB just take what it needs in terms of Amps?

Way out of my comfort zone, all this.

Yeah, Amps is fine - as long as the power bank can supply more MORE than the pedals needed you will be ok.

It's the voltage you need to be wary of, that's what will fry pedals/power supplies.

If you use a buck convertor it should be fine.

Thank for that, makes it a lot easier to grasp :grin

If you use that sort of cable I linked to the voltage will be converted already in the powerbank, as long as it has Power Delivery. I think you also need a polarity inverter though.

Now I’m considering getting it too! I have a powerbank with USB-C that can output 65W and is rated for 12V/2A so that part of the equation is already taken care of.

Edit: the 12V cable is center positive, so needs one of these to work: https://www.songbirdfx.com/products/polarity-inverter-cable/
