Posted this at FAS but I'll post here too.

Well, Cliff has gone either to Davos, Switzerland with all the other schmucks, or he’s cooking up something new…

I’m betting on the latter.

100% he is working on something and judging by the silence probably something fairly substantial

I also find it odd that he added the input dynamics control after a year
Call me crazy but I am thinking somehow that might tie in to what he is doing as it seems kind of random unless an artist asked for it

Or he is at Disney riding in a teacup
On its a small world

I’m not even going to pretend to understand the purpose of resetting the amp block or how to do it.

Im pretty sure Cliff does Cliff and does not give a Shit about what other companies are doing,
but if he is hard at on something im thinking its cabs, not much more to do amp wise after Cygnus
so probably logical next step will probably be cabs :idk

I think the overall gist is if the FW doesn't automatically do it for you, it won't load the new changes into the amp blocks.

We will see , I don’t think it cabs
Maybe some GUI stuff or implementation of the tone and tweaks and Axe edit overhaul

Usually in the past when it this long he is measuring or comparing a bunch of amps again after implementing some new algorithms

I wonder if I'm missing a ton of features. I've yet to ever do it. I think. I wouldn't know it if I did.

The Fractal Fanboy in me says Cliff doesn't care what the competition is doing. But he does pay attention to what his customers wish for.
With the sheer amount of unfullfilled wishes in their master wishlist...I wouldn't say so. I think Cliff works on the stuff that he finds most interesting, which for the most part is the amp modeling.

I would expect that the most substantial update to come next is the new cab block with a system similar to what Helix and QC now have with movable mics on a virtual speaker. After that? Who knows.

I do think Fractal needs to be concerned with what their competition is doing. Line6 Helix is a consistent seller, half the range is cheaper than most Fractal products and Quad Cortex was the #1 selling guitar product on both Thomann and Sweetwater last year. With Fractal being a good chunk more expensive at least here in EU, that puts them in a tough spot where to the layman the Helix seems more affordable and the Quad Cortex more modern and futuristic combined with NeuralDSP's heavier online marketing push.

Fractal also needs to revise their own marketing. I mean the first points on their Axe-Fx 3 page are how much faster it is than older Fractal products and the next is about "A large 800×480 color display" which sounds laughable now when your smartphone has 2-3x the resolution.

Is Fractal Audio’s target really the layman?

Rarely do I find premier products aimed at joe sixpack.

Pricing is purposeful.

Not really, but there's definitely a good group of people who are looking for their first top tier modeler but are not very knowledgeable about them.

Agree on this. I responded to a thread at the FAS forum(and got yelled at for being passive agressive but that's another discussion :rofl ) and there is a good influx of new "fresh faced" users from what I see. Where questions arise that us old modeling veterans hashed out probably going on 10 years ago :bag
