Any experiences with repairing HX Stomp out of warranty?

chances are something more is toast.

If you’re really cruel, send it to me so that I can stare at a broken stomp to remind me that I sold my stomp three times
Are you really looking for sympathy from me right now? I got exactly $0 for mine. ;)

(Actually, I’m glad I didn’t ship it off to some unwary buyer without testing it…)

If my Stomp ever shit the bed I'd shell out a few hundy or whatever to send it back to L6 and get it back to tip-top shape the right way in a reasonable amount of time.

I love my Stomp that much.

I'll never have anyone else pack it though. I learned my lesson with my Helix Floor...

Decided to take a look inside to see if there was some simple explanation or an easy remedy - like a loose ribbon connector or something. Holy hell, this is what the main PCB looks like right near the Send jack. I do recall now that I was running it in the FX loop of my TA30 a couple of months ago and it made a very loud popping sound (40W of power on the wrong side of the MV, ouch.) This looks like an expensive repair (i.e. replacement.)

You could cover over the scorched area with goop and resell the Stomp as 'boutique modified lo-fi tone improvement HX stomp". Start with $2k, watch the prices climb.

I'm afraid my Helix may be in a similar situation - it is smoking when I power it up. Hope it is limited to the power supply. It's heading back to HQ this week for assessment.

Let us know if ya send it to L6. Curious what they would charge to fix it. Seems to me if it exceeds about $300 would be better off buying a new one.

Right now I'm using the stock HX Stomp power supply. Previously I was using a BoxKing BK1 battery. I'm not sure which I was running when the Stomp first failed. Neither have ever given me any trouble, and I don't think I have anything else that's compatible in terms of barrel jack size and polarity.

Another possibly relevant tidbit: it passes audio just fine (i.e. true bypass) when it's powered down.
I would strongly suggest trying a different power supply. Buy yourself a brand new spare, or borrow a genuine Line 6 adapter to test.

I think that ship has sailed. And the ship was on fire at the time.

I am using the original L6 adaptor, though I believe it was on battery power (as it had typically been for years) at the time of failure.

My Helix Floor is back home safe. $185 to fix everything. Highly recommend!
$210 to get my HX Stomp back. And then sell it for $300 maybe? I had a feeling it was going to be an expensive fix, but it’s harder to justify when it’s such a high percentage of the overall value (versus fixing a Helix Floor, for instance.)

Yeah that stings a bit - I would keep it if you’re going to try and flip it for $300 - they are going for $700 new right now I’d at least list it for $400-450.

Wow. For some reason I thought the new prices had come down quite a bit. I think I'd listed it here for $400 (before I realized it was dead LOL) and didn't get any bites.

Who knows... maybe I'll get it back and realize I still need it for something.

(Just checked and I had it at $460 shipped. Maybe I need to split the difference or something.)

That's a bummer!

My HX Stomp has been a bit weird when I fire it up, occasionally theres no sound or it locks up but works fine when restarting. Maybe I'll have to crack it open and see if it there's anything visually wrong.
