So, I sold my Gibsons some months ago and decided to get something that would inspire me more, some guitars with more modern features, looks and feel. Got some EII's, love those! But then I came across this Edwards LP-CTM in a store in Finland (online). I emailed them and they assured me that these are excellent guitars, so I bit the bullet. The guitar came and I actually love it a lot, it's at least as good as my old Custom!

For some reason some people find that impossible to believe, they just can't get their head around the fact that a more affordable guitar (from Asia) is just as good, if not better than a Gibson. Anyway, I highly recommend looking into these!

This video has a sound clip and I talk about the guitar etc.

I love my Gibson, but I also love the 2011 Edwards I bought from Kyle Bull via the TGF Classifieds.

I had an Edwards E-LP-130LTS/RE that I imported new directly from Japan years ago. It was their top LP model back then. Great guitar! Sold it in 2010, I believe.

That and several other «Les Paul»s have come and then gone.

But I still have my 2010 Gibson R8 (will keep this until I die, I believe) and my 2000 Gibson Les Paul Standard (the best standard I’ve come across so far, though a bit heavy).

Edit:

Found an old iPhone photo I took of my Edwards back in 2010. I actually miss that guitar quite a bit.

There’s a bunch of Edwards fans here!!

But like I said in the comments in your vid, @GuitarJon, SHHHHHHHH!!!! There’s already rumors about ESP shutting this line down due to them leaking out of Japan and I’d imagine it won’t be before long that Gibson puts the clamp down on Reverb sellers offering to ship them to the states.

Yeah, they're not on the Edwards website anymore :( It would be a shame if they had to stop making these...

It's true. The gentleman I have purchased from in Japan told me they were not
allowed to post any of the "New" listing on Reverb for a good deal of time now,
and that the pressure was on (from you know who) and that production could dry up
at any time.

Which is why I have 3 LPs and a V now. :chef

Edit: Checking my notes and it was 18 months ago he first mentioned to me the
pressure. The first (White LPC) I purchased on Reverb. The last 3 all direct from his
store. Killer service. Already have plans to go to that Shop when I get to Japan after
I "retire!" :beer

Here's the store/shop I purchased from, Jon. They have some stock still on hand. Just an FYI.

And this is some recent correspondence about listing new Edwards guitars for sale on-line.

Played Gibsons in one variety or another since 1984. My first REAL guitar was a Les Paul Studio.

Owned Vs and Explorers and SGs and 335s and Customs and Standards up until 2023 when
I sold all of my Gibsons to one person. They still have a piece of my heart, because of their
legacy. I just can't get on board with how they operate these days and support them with my
own $$$. Probably the exact same reason I will never again purchase a new Mesa Boogie.

I am not out making signs and placards, but there are legitimate reasons for me to NOT want to
support "the Man" with my own hard-earned $$$. For now. :idk

Besides, the fit and finish and setup on the Edwards are superior to anything Gibson put in my hands
in recent memory. Not lying. I really, really love the feel of every Made in Japan guitar I own right now. :chef

Did you swap out the PUs? Thoughts? :idk

Back in 2017 I wanted to buy a higher end Les Paul style guitar for my birthday, so I went to see what local stores offered. I came back so disappointed in every Gibson they had. So many issues on expensive guitars, to the point that I swear they send the worst examples to Finland.

I have seen way nicer Gibsons in the US, UK and Japan. But I just refuse to buy the brand because they keep peddling complete shit to buyers. Part of the fault is of course stores putting them up for sale too rather than sending them back.

I ended up buying a 2006 Heatley Tradition used, for less than what many Custom Shop Gibsons cost. These are like $6K USD starting price when they were made, and the quality is just way above any Gibson I've ever played. Super happy with that one.

Awesome! Why is that if you don't mind me asking?

cause i been looking hard at navigator or edwards for a good full thickness custom or standard. gibson price is not at all commensurate with the workmanship quality or tone, anymore. what you're after with a les paul custom is the scale length, wood combination, and thickness.

but most of the sound comes from how those ingredients are assembled, primarily the fretboard gluing and the neck joint, and the fret installation.

how gibson assemblies the ingredients doesn't match up to how much you pay for the label on the headstock.

Japan knows wood from wood, and what do do with it, from antiquity.

plus youtube comments like these are an absolute gold mine of insight
