Pick material differences

I’ve been noticing a big difference in the material of celluloid picks lately.

I bought some of the Fender Mediums lately and the material seemed really cheap and plasitc-y. A few of them were warped and they wore out really fast.

I got a pack of D’Addario mediums with a pedal and they’re fantastic! They last a lot longer and they’ve got the best grip I’ve had on a celluloid pick. I think I’ve found a new brand of celluloid picks. like them even better than the Dunlops.

Kind of crazy how much difference there can be in the material of something as simple as celluloid picks from different companies

Well Met, they are Fenders

:grin

It's often overlooked, but switching to a different pick (brand, material. shape, thickness) has a huge impact on tone.

Man I have been disappointed by celluloid so many times, love the celluloid Fender used years ago, but yes they became plasticky, don't like them anymore. Best I've found so far are D'Andrea celluloids, they remind me of the old Fenders.
Will check out the D'Addarios

Never used celluloid pick any insight characteristics compared to say Nylon or the ones usually use prime tone Ultex

I like the D’Andrea material but I don’t like the shape of their 351 as well. I like the ones with rounder shoulders that are a little wider

I've given up looking at different picks, I'm running with Dunlop JP 427's and calling it a day. Every time I think I find something better, I end up hating it for some reason a week or 2 later and then throwing them in the shit box of guitar gear I will probably never use

I don't like celluloid, especially those Fenders. The tone just never sits right with me and they're too flimsy. Ultex doesn't feel right in my hand, they heat up quick and get softer, also can't grip the damn things. Dunlop Tortex were always my standby but I run through them quick.

I was never too keen on Nylon either but I have some nylon carbon blends from Pickboy and I'm hooked.

For me, nothing sounds as good as a medium celluloid. There are times I prefer the tone of other picks for specific things, but in general medium celluloid is my baseline.

I completely forgot about that, I even chimed in! :rofl

I guess this is the first time I’ve bought Fender picks since then. Yep, they definitely changed the material. It’s terrible now
