Peavey Bandit to Valveking to 6505.

Out of all my amps, the Valveking has the best cleans, it has a twin reverb preamp.

I forgot to mention that I'm getting a Mesa Halfback vertical 2x12 with C90s to use with my amps. I didn't think I'd need another cab, but someone here posted about liking his, and I decided to look into it. Turns out to be a good idea.

My dealer is checking with Mesa to see if I can get one with the wicker, tolex and tan trim to match my Mark VII. If not, however, I'll still probably order one. The Force is strong with that cab.

They are - really good amps. I had a Komet Concorde in my studio for a short workout years ago (a friend brought it over). It was stellar.

The Fractal Morgan AC-20 Deluxe model sounded very close to the Victory VC35 I had. So if anyone on the European side of the pond is looking for that kind of amp, get the Victory! And pair it with Alnico Golds!

I've never played a real Komet, but the Fractal model seems like it works so much better with single coils. It's too tubby with humbuckers for my tastes, to the point it seems like a "blues leads only" amp. I saw Mark Knopfler playing his on the Shangri-La tour, it sounded beautiful...but that's probably the player!

I spent the beginning years avoiding the Marshall sound only to find later that was what I wanted to hear all along. I’m still there but I must be getting old because I’ve been digging more thicker Dumbly sounds these days, which is why I love my Magica, it does a great Marshall-Dumble hybrid.

Just run it damn near wide open and go!



I think if we are versatile musicians with skills we are not going to want one
thing all the time for every use. Tools exist to use them for the right purpose.

My tastes are just too broad to eat one type of cuisine all the time, or use
one type of amp all the time, or hell, even one type of guitar all the time.

I do still love the lower powered amps. I spent a month gigging my LP basically plugged directly into into my JRT on the 6v6 setting cranked into overdrive and it was just amazing!

Actually liking high powered amps is a totally new experience for me. I used to hate them!

Even when I was gigging a Mark IV back in the day I was usually on TWEED + CLASS A + TRIODE mode with 6v6s!

But just like Les Pauls, I’ve found that with what I’m playing these days they actually do a thing I really enjoy.
