Peavey Prison Labour

I’m sorta amazed the company is still in business. The 6505 wasn’t being produced for two years starting around the pandemic. The Invective had spotty availability during this time, and the only thing semi consistently available from them was the mini head versions of both.

The 6505 ”Original” has only been available now for what, a month? (Despite it’s protracted release window)

I wonder how much revenue they generate from non-guitar gear, because they haven’t exactly been all that active otherwise.

Which is a shame given how great their high gain offerings have been historically speaking.

I haven’t even seen a Peavey catalog in about 20 years, are they still making PA gear?

I guess I just stopped thinking about them because they haven’t made a guitar I’ve had any interest in since the Wolfgang, any amp I’d buy would be used and there’s just not really any other reason to pay attention to them. The 5150 reissues were the only notable thing they’ve done…..since the failed Devin Townsend endorsement? I suppose the Invective, but that didn’t exactly make a big splash.

The company had peak revenue last year. Gigantic compared to Line 6, Fractal Audio, Kemper, NDSP, etc….

Interesting. Maybe the guitar side of the house is a small percentage of their overall business. (Noting my cursory glance at their amp availability over the last couple years is not exactly a thorough study :ROFLMAO: )

I don't think I've ever played a Peavey guitar or amp. I've used some of their PA equipment but that's about it.

Wow. Even before my love of 5150’s it felt like every jam I ever showed up to had a Classic 30 sitting in the corner. My best friend had one for his first good amp in high school.

That's been my experience with the hot rod deluxe tbh, however thinking about it the guy I bought my les Paul from had a Peavey classic 50... I think. I'm not 100% sure.

I've had a look on their site though and see they own Budda. I used to have a Budda wah but didn't realise that was peavey. It was this one

I came super close to buying one of these last year. Ended up with an EVH.

They float around the $2K mark used.

Same! When I first started playing guitar in the late 80s, the big music store in town was one of those places that sold pianos and rented and serviced marching band instruments. They only had a small area of guitar stuff and it was 100% Peavey, all solid state amps. It was super rare if you knew anybody who had a Fender or a Marshall (or a tube amp at all, for that matter). We spent a lot of time in pawn shops and flea markets looking for decent gear.

Same here. We all started on the Peavey powered mixer as a rental (XR600??) and a couple of Peavey
12" PA Cabs.

They flooded rural markets with their brand, and probably didn't have the hardline stipulations that
Fender and Gibson had in relation to how much stock a store had to carry in order to sell the brand. :idk

I’m always amazed at those who think the state does a better job … lol
When you have corrupt judicial system with private prisons, and the goal to fill them as much as possible for as long as possible, then yes, state does a better job.

We're not talking about conditions in prisons here, but I'm 100% certain they are, at best, the same in private ones as in state ones.
Pretty sure they're worse in private ones.

The local music store has been a Peavey dealer since I was a kid. Their answer to every question was PEAVEY, especially back in the 90s.

They just stopped carrying Peavey. One of the store employees was telling me they had tons of defective product and got sick of the problems, sick of disappointed customers.

It’s hard to manufacture inexpensive instruments and gear in the US today, and this has been the case for a while now. I don’t blame any one person at Peavey. The writing was on the wall.
