On the fence and cant decide QC or QC mini - fell over the fence and going mini

I watched 2 or 3 of his videos and other than his illusion on thinking an item that is selling out in every shipment somehow magically getting blown out 10 months down the road; he had some good takes if I am being honest :ROFLMAO:

100%. My god so many people are missing the point. His rants are spot on...not that shit is overpriced, it's that we are all going nuts BUY BUY BUY falling for every marketing blitz that floods social media. And we spend all our time focused on gear and not playing.

If you don't have a modeler or don't like the current one you have, then absolutely it makes sense to shop for something new. But if you've got a modeler you like or even several, are you getting GAS because of all the hype and excitement?

And swap out "modeler" in that sentence for pedal, amp, or guitar...it's nuts.

His other video calls out just the blatant non stop shilling on YouTube that's disguised as someone's unbiased opinion. Which is 100% what guitar tube has devolved into. Either that or fake show off guitar playing. Or I guess click bait rants (which is what this is).

Unless someone is spending your time or money, I don’t know why you or anyone else would care.

Are we going to post this sort of commentary in every thread for every piece of gear that is released? Who is the arbiter of what gear is appropriate for ones excitement or for a company to be able to advertise?

Of course YouTube is a shill fest. Of course marketing is a thing. We’re all big boys and have to make decisions for ourselves.

Everyone dislikes consumerism, consumption, marketing, shilling etc…… until it’s something they’re interested in. Go figure. :ROFLMAO:

I don't care what others are doing. I bring it up here because I originally posted the video in the other thread which TB2 crossposted here for some reason and then JT responded here and I responded to him.

I like the original video because to me the crazy hype around QC seemed artificially driven. Six months ago everyone's dunking on NDSP for doing nothing the last two years and then they re-release the QC in a smaller package and all of a sudden it's the coolest thing ever. I'm off the hype train which makes me the idiot I guess.

Except for that brief moment in the video (approximately the length of said video) that we were talking about where he repeatedly states the QCM is overpriced. I just keep missing the point. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bravo to @AlbertA for a masterful meme retort. Even if you don't agree with all of it, he deserves a golden pickle award or whatever the fuck we give out around here.

Honest to god have no idea what the memes mean.

But check my signature. I've spent my whole life pissing people off by not sharing all their opinions and IDGAF.

Back to the OP - I haven't used the QC Mini but I had the QC for two years and have had smaller units with switching limitations.

By all accounts the QC Mini has a much improved power supply with lower noise which is one of my bigger complaints with the QC. The screen also looks like it has a tougher screen which is nice. And the power is the same as the full size unit.

The big kicker is going to be if there's a chance you need more switching than the Mini offers, because pretty much any time you start thinking of adding external switching then you lose out on a lot of the benefits. I went through that with HX Stomp and Kemper Player, thinking about adding a MIDI switcher or whatever. End of the day if you only use 2-3 switches then the Mini should be perfectly fine, but if you normally 5-6 then it's always going to feel like a compromise.

Two things:

-There are still plenty of people here who will happily piss all over QC/NDSP for all of their historical failings. (Look in the mirror and say "Drew" three times.)

-In the past 6 months, NDSP did a lot more than just "honey I shrunk the QC". The firmware updates were actually pretty excellent in that time frame, between a comprehensive synth block, excellent reverbs, and an entire new capturing technology.

Don't buy what you don't want/ don't need/ can't afford is still a given, of course.

Generally speaking, I disagree with this. Adding footswitches (unless you're particular about LED state representation) is a trivial effort. The main benefits that come from the touchscreen and UI/UX are much harder (if not impossible) to replicate, and you maintain or even augment those by adding external footswitches.

Yeah for sure. Despite selling it I liked the QC, and I'd be lying if I said the Mini wasn't intriguing. I know I'd struggle with the switching though. But they 100% addressed some critical items that needed to be addressed, and they did finally start developing for the QC platform again. The update with micropitch is awesome as are the new reverbs. They have new higher def captures which is also intriguing to me.

Plus they are still the only ones I can think of who offer multiple captures in a single preset. So stereo captures or drives and amps. That can't be understated - the competition has not come close here!

They released a new device.

Six months ago everyone's dunking on NDSP for doing nothing the last two years and then they re-release the QC in a smaller package and all of a sudden it's the coolest thing ever.

In the last six months they’ve released three updates and a new device, hence the current momentum.

all of a sudden it's the coolest thing ever.

A new device can’t be the coolest thing ever until after it’s released, right? Was it supposed to be gaining popularity before it existed?

I think the implication here was that we started hating the OG QC a little less. :D But again: a) not true across the board; and b) see improvements per new firmware.
