My buddy did 2 mods to his and it sounds massive, no more shrill fizz, plenty of kerrang -open raw and mean. Lower noise as well.
He added a choke and a negative feedback circuit. Took it from an amp neither of us would keep to dam that sounds like a post production recorded Marshall! :guiness

My recurring thoughts on getting a JVM, which I have had GAS for like forever on; is that I will get it and not be that much more impressed than I am with the JVM models I use all the time in my III and FM. It's been super easy to not pull the trigger on it many, many times.

I would agree 100% unless I had not heard it first hand, however I need a follow up visit as the new JEL 50w has my attention

In general I drift toward a Slo 100 or my all time fav a Headfirst Alta is the best Marshall tone one could hope for:beer

I know the overcomplication of the circuit would have me being me probably super quick and instantly look towards the 205. Which has it's own piles of "if only it was this or that" attached to it. I will end up with one someday. Just not ready quite yet  :ROFLMAO:

Looking forward to you kissing the Frogs that are a JVM and a Mark V someday, in hopes
they turn into a Prince. :beer

Gotta lick them ice cream cones sooner or later.

AXE JVM models (JS and regular JVM) are top notch. The AXE mitigates so many new amp purchases for me it’s crazy.

The 410 is really good, but I’d have to say that the Fractal models are better. All of the tone and none of the flaws.

Still, if I had a classic/hard rock gig I’d be highly tempted to get one again.

So, I'm kinda considering picking up a used JVM410 head. They aren't priced too bad over here.

Other than being large and heavy, what are the bad parts of these? I know there's a lot of easy mods to tweak them.

main thing to watch for is if anyone has hacked some mods and made a mess of it.

I think because they can be picked up for reasonable prices sometimes they get treated a bit worse than a “boutique” amp. They’re often great prices here but usually a bit more beaten up cosmetically too.

One of the bad parts was the mods. The fact that they existed and many were implemented in the Satriani model. Why didn’t it just come that way to start with?

My biggest gripe was that it was darn near impossible to set up the OD channels to use green and (red/yellow) on the same channel. Yellow and red are just way too high gain. To the point where a reasonable gain level makes them sound kinda thin. Yellow and red are also pretty noisy.

The serial/parallel loop leaks dry signal even when 100% wet. But the other pure serial loop is very hot and you need to be careful about the channel volumes or you’ll overload your effects in that loop.

The 2xx models omit the OD1 channel which is way better than OD2.

One the best dirty tones I ever heard was a guy playing a 410 in a band that opened for us. When I looked at the amp I noticed he was on the clean channel. Asked him later and he told me it was kind of a secret among the Nashville guys that the Boss GT-10 overdrives into the JVM clean channel was where it was at. I ran mine like that for a long time and he was right.
