It's here

WTF TGF. I thought this forum was supposed to be better, and I have to start the discussion? Me??? The dude who took 5 months to remember to register for this forum, i'm the standard bearer?

Anyhoo, i do have some thoughts to discuss but am currently overseeing the junior 45673s, so i'll write when I have some mental flexibility

Good seeing you Moe! When Boss figures out how to implement a simple IR player into their modeling devices; they will absolutely regain my attention. Until then or the GR1000 comes out; I'm mainly out of the loop discussing them.

Well, maybe the time is here. Just a few days ago Boss dropped a major firmware update for the Boss GX-100 and addressed the IR issue.

UPDATE HISTORY
[ Boss Tone Studio Ver.2.0.0 ] SEP 2024

  • Compatible with the GX-100 System Program Ver.2.00 or later.
  • Direct access to BOSS TONE EXCHANGE.
  • Direct access to IR Loader.
  • Improvement of IR data conversion.
------------------------------------------

So there is now no need for a separate IR Loader and much more [potentially] importantly they have " improved the IR data conversion ".

Maybe it's time to bring the GX-100 back into the light...

Laughs in Sitar Sim addition.

I would never be using that so...that's not a concern... :ROFLMAO:
"Don't add good sounding models of real world amps. What most modeling fans want is the Sitar Sim from the GT-3. Duh!" :rofl

TBF; I was re-looking for firesale GT1000 the other day. So hypocrisy duly noted :bag

Yep. It is %100 fixed .... only took them 2 1/2 years !!!!

I ran a GT for nearly 12 months.

As to the GX and GT units ..... I have massive respect for the Boss Original and X-Amps ... yep ... they aren't attempts at 1:1 modeling copies of anything ... but they are specifically designed *not* to be that .... they are their own thing ... and that is something I love.

Now that the IR issue is fixed and you can load your own IR of choice in the GX - GT had this issue fixed within months of its release - if you cant get -equivalent- top tier tones out of these units ... it aint the units.

I think not having a variable Input Impedance was a big miss.

I realize I'm a lone voice on this, but that's my 2c.

I’m going to have to mess with this for sure.

I get the "hate" on this unit ... that comes from the Legacy Amps that are far from good ... I think Boss probably only put them in because they "had to" for marketing purposes. As I've said many times, no-one has ever bought and then kept a GT / GX for the Legacy Amps.

But the Boss Originals and X-Amps really are as good as anything out their .... and as long as you are happy to create your own tone and not looking to get a 1:1 of a Plexi SLP or Mesa or AC you will be very happy.

No hate from me brother...LOTS of happy GX owners out there to be sure.

Not related, but I almost bought an ME-90 this last weekend. No real reason, but it just seems like the type of device you could have fun playing. (Remember fun?) I’ve never played a Boss modeler before and that seems wrong, maybe. :ROFLMAO:

Too bad the GX-100 went back up to $600...was really tempting at $500 for a while there.

Yeah, I still can’t get behind the “modeled” amps, but you’re right about the BOSS amps. Even better now that there are more of them. I can’t remember which one I liked the most, but they’re all good.

You get a ton of useful tones and features for the money on the GX. I have a lot of fun with mine and it always sounds great. F I was going to rag one something about it I would say it's the overdrives and comps. I don't care for most of them which is surprising because I love me some SD-1 and CS-3 but the ones in the box are not those. Other than that the other effects are great and the unit is super flexible, especially the switching options.
