No more 4cm!!! Boss or bust? (GX100?)

I have had a chance to test all the combinations of my gear. I've been playing with boost pedals, multi fx, 4cm, noise supressors, etc.

Laney Ironheart is sounding killer with old faithful SD1. Easily beats the Friedman IR-X in tone and versatility, and it takes boosts really well. Friedman was sounding good into the return, but to get some nice shred you have to boost the treble a bit and I was starting to get microphonics when pushed. There is no reason to have that pedal if youre using a real tube amp.

In 4cm with Ironheart, the Zoom G11 has good dynamic range, the tone is fine, controls the noise, no strange ground loops or weird stuff, its not hard to set the levels.... BUT, I just can't get over the xtra latency!!

The G11 is supposed to have 2.1ms through latency according to Leo Gibson. There is an assumption that the S/R loop will add another 2.1ms latency, and it should be around 4.2ms. That is what it feels like. Feels like playing an amp sim on my computer. Its not crazy high latency, but just enough to feel. When I chuck the strings after a mute I can hear that extra lag and it looses the immediate feel. Eff that. I used to use a GT100 4cm with this amp and I never had that feeling.

So of course if 4ms latency in 4cm is NOGO, then the Helix, Fractal, Headrush, QC, TMP are also NOGO for 4cm.

Its either going be be Boss in 4cm, or nothing. If Its nothing, I have to get something like a Decimator that is better than my NS-2. And a loop switcher.

I'm starting all over.

Im thinking my new rig will look something like...

Morningstar ml5. Boosts in loops 1 and 2. Amp loop 3. Amp pedals loop 4. Mfx Post fx loop 5.

Into analog 10 band eq

Into analog path delay/ reverb.

Into amp return.

Need to research delay reverb processors with analog and midi.

Someone asked same question last year.

As much as I dig my GX-100, using it in 4CM is not its strong suit. It’s doable for sure but it’s a pain to get setup correctly and even then I’m not sure the juice is worth the squeeze.

Straight into an "FRFR" though it’s a blast?

Also, let's not forget how long sound travels through air. And how long electrical signal travels from ear to brain. And how long brain take to process the signal. It runs at miserable 200 Hz! Not even ASIO4ALL can help that thing.
Literally unplayable!

I only play by plugging speaker cable directly into my spinal cord near the brain stem.
Not recommended with tube amps.

So how did the GT1000 turn out long term in 4cm?

I think the limitation is that there wouldn't be any boosts that I like more than my pedals, so even if it works well I would still be using a pedal.

The only thing I lament going back to an analog front is losing the built in noise suppressor.

Dusted off the old GT100 and it works great in 4cm. Cant feel the latency, easy to set levels, maybe only the tiniest loss of presence. Boosts are only so-so.

Its a shame that besides the noise suppressor and some delays, the box isn't doing a whole lot. And its huge.
