This was really a treat!

My buddies who do the tributes are doing this with him, Mike the guitarist and Paulo the vocalist (same dudes who did the Ryche/Dokken tributes recently). They’re doing Maiden’s upcoming setlist as a way to get Nicko ready for the tour. He discusses his health issues and why he’s doing this in this speech-

I’m not a huge Maiden fan, but that was fun as hell. I wish I grabbed more pics from the stage but I went to help my buddy Jeff get the previous band’s gear off and touched the kit! Jeff and I are carrying a cab to the side of the stage when I hear “Lit-el Jeff-ree be careful with that! We need you to make us sound good tonight, mate!” and I look up, Nicko is standing right next to me, slaps me on the shoulder and says “Thanks, mate, that cabinet weighs more than he does!” (Jeff is a stick) then I look at Jeff after he walks away and I’m like, “That dude is no different than Lars or Bonham as far as I’m concerned. What a fucking trip”

I’ve got a few vids, not sure if I got any full songs or not. Mike was using his Helix/ISP/4x12 rig. I don’t think I caught Nicko’s band introduction, but man, I got choked up in that. He gets to Mike and says “And this man, this man is like having Adrian and Dave in one person, he’s become a dear friend and if not for him Iron Maiden would be on drummer #5 right now!” then he gets to Paulo, “If this man were around after Blaze Bailey, you’d all be singing his songs!”

The other guitarist was playing a Strat with single coils, I can’t say that was a benefit to the overall sound because it that twangy, Strat single coil bridge pickup sound for all his rhythm parts. His leads sounded fucking great and he could rip, though!

I’m not sure how many of these gigs he’s doing or if there are any outside Florida, but I’d definitely go see it if you can!

I always liked a few Maiden songs but they were never a band whose albums I'd ever think to put on. Went to see them with some friends back in 2008/2009 and absolutely loved it. They were fecking fantastic live. I wouldn't hesitate to go and see them again.

Our latest drummer is recovering from a stroke and those TIA induced partial paralysis.

Bless them guys in Maiden for sticking by him.

Nicko is one of the GOATs. Great sense of humor from the sounds of things, too.

He was extremely comfortable on the mic and cracked a ton of jokes. I think it's awesome that despite the amount of shows this guy has behind him he still loves playing as much as he does.

I'll upload my vids later, but here's some previous performances-

Paulo is such a beast with singing these tunes.

I saw Maiden in Fresno Ca. twice in the early 80's epic ness!!! :beer When Bruce and Nicko joined they became superstars! For me Bruce's voice was up there with Dio and other top voices of that era. Who can compare these days in the land of scream O?

Nicko always has a few, I don't know, "formulaic" things he does in songs, but he's a cool dude and has stuck it out for the long haul. It's cool to hear he's kind to people he plays with, even if they are just dudes who play clubs and pubs.
