Wall of text warning! TL,DR; it's killer. :satan

I'll be honest, Tyler Guitars have never really been on my radar.

I knew they were primo top-shelf items but I haven't been compelled to seek one out. @Eagle's recent thread got me thinking about them in a big way, where I inevitably fell into the rabbit hole and couldn't stop thinking about trying one. I've had three Suhrs in the past (including my current guitar), but I still find myself looking for something that really speaks to me. So it goes. I fully appreciate that I'm very very lucky to own such nice instruments, but I can only justify keeping one high-end guitar. I'm just some schmuck playing in his living room after all. :whistle

Not easy to come by Tylers in these parts so I had no choice but to order online which is unusual for me. This was my first-ever online purchase for a new guitar without ever trying even the brand beforehand, but I knew that chances were quite high that I would get a winner. I'm extremely pleased so far. This thing kicks ass!

The main draw for me was the highly-praised "Standard '59" neck shape and I can confirm it's wicked. Exactly to my taste which is very lucky.
Nice and round all the way up, save for a tiiiny hint of a V-carve once you reach the upper half, I think? It's super comfy and just feels right. Full and fat but not too big. It's like the nicest strat you've ever played. The rolled fingerboard edges are so sexy and it feels like a nicely worn-in guitar straight from the box. Beautiful. After years of horse-trading and trying a lot of guitars, I've come to realise that I don't really like D-shaped necks much at all, nor do I like fretboards that are flatter than a 12 inch radius. I find a more old-school feeling neck infinitely more comfortable than a super flat and thin shred stick.

I was slightly afraid that I wouldn't dig the pickups as I don't really have any frame of reference for Tyler's stuff. These are the JTO pickups and they sound great to me. I prefer low to medium output pickups with some bite when needed - these deliver. The switching options are super fun and very useful, and the preamp is cool as a "make fatter" button even when the level knob is at minimum. Tyler calls it a 'mid boost preamp' on the website - is it still the Demeter? Not sure.

My only wish? I'd love to have stainless steel frets on this. Maybe on the next refret, whenever that happens. (if I keep it, that is.)

Here it is shortly after unboxing, followed by some of the dealer's proper studio photos. I loooove a black pickguard on a strat, especially with a nice dark fretboard to match. The colour is almost like a primer-gray but with a hint of warmth. The first couch-photo is fairly colour accurate to real-life (on my screens at least.)
I like the headstock and the matching colours really tie it together. Not my favourite shape in the world, but IDGAF when playing it!

Having seen this guitar in real life, I can attest that it looks even nicer close up than it does in the photos.

The white overprint lettering on the headstock makes this one of my favourites to date; I prefer this to the all black text.

Amazing neck! Pickups are juicy too :love

Most of my frends bought theirs about ten years ago. In the UK the USA ones were between £2K and £2.5k . The one I refreted a few weeks back was £1795 new about 15years ago. How things have changed.

@Eagle I'm trying to understand how the neck feels silky smooth but at the same time natural and unfinished, like a fresh finely-sanded piece of wood; but surely it's sealed somehow?

What's going on with the neck finish? How do they do that?

OMG this is so gorgeous I'm not even going to say anything about the headstock. ;) (I'm even going to admit that the graphics on the headstock look really cool.) I LOVE the color and the black 3-ply pickguard and the mini-toggles and the oversized pole pieces... Just a perfect superstrat!

Depends on what model but all the ones I have seen are either a really nice satin urathane or a rubbed in satin finish probably the same lacquer applied like a French polish. It ends up feeling like raw wood but is completely sealed.Tyler keeps their finishes under wraps.

Mine at the time was $3500 street and being friends of the family obviously less. But yeah that was 20 years ago same in the US would be literally twice that and about 9300€ in Germany.
