The Ola video put a happy smile on my face. The Zack video was god tier, tones AND song choices
Only thing that sucked about Zack's video was the lack of Tool riffs. The Ola video put a happy smile on my face. The Zack video was god tier, tones AND song choices

It's a bit like saying is there any need to get a 2203 or Plexi instead of a JVM. Both are great, and I can understand someone having a preference for either.Truly is there any reason to get this over a Multiwatt?
He just spelled "the lack of Limp Bizkit and 90s' Testament riffs" wrong!

Low, Demonic and the Gathering are all massively underrated. There is an Eric Peterson riff lords vid that came out a few days ago that isI always forget about The Gathering until I put it on. And it’s all out destruction with Recto fueled aggression and James Murphy leads. Very underrated album.
LOVE Eric Peterson and he's a monster player. That video bummed me out a bit though - way too much gain and it just made things sound mushy and brought up some sloppiness in his playing that I don't really associate with him. The tones on their albums are always in that sweet spot of gain where it's got plenty, but still enough dynamics to make the notes punch and jump out the speakers. That one is weird for me. Mainly because I came up on the originals. And I don't think the re-recordings were an upgrade. The OG productions were dated af but the newer version was not really my cup of tea either. They were the impetus to getting Sklnick back and for that I am all aboard for. Live in London DVD is PHENOMENAL.First Strike Still Deadly tone is up there with the Gathering too, a lot of similarities to the Gathering tone, if a bit refined (and tighter which is largely down to the tunings and style of songs being more old school).
I’m all for shitty nostalgic 80’s production, and they’re not without their charm. Usually I hate when artists re-record songs, it’s impossible to recapture the magic and usually it is the way it is for a reason. I just felt a lot of the earlier Testament recordings were never 100% right to begin with in the way some other 80’s albums are. For me, the re-recording versions hit in the way that the originals were probably intended to and is one of the only examples of re-recording old material I can get on board with. That one is weird for me. I haven't listened to it in forever. Aren't the drums clicky and weird sounding? I was thinking that was what I didn't like about it. John Tempesta was a BADASS in Testament. They've had so many great drummers after Louie. He was like Lars without any of the benefitsI’m all for shitty nostalgic 80’s production, and they’re not without their charm. Taking aside the songs, the tones and production are one of my favourites too. Peak Andy Sneap era for me, a nice mix of analog, bad digital, and people trying some different shit before everyone resorted to copying everyone else.
Ha, as is often the case I think a decent drummer would have made the earlier recordings sound way better. I think one of the main reasons Flemming Rasmussen got a better sound out of Metallica was he knew all the tricks in making someone who can’t play well sound like they can play (at least reasonably OK). Tempesta is a total dude as well as being a monster player, one of those guys who could join any band and instantly make them sound better.I haven't listened to it in forever. Tempesta is a fucking GROOVE machine too. He puts some vibe on the evil \m/ Demonic is fucking gutturalHa, as is often the case I think a decent drummer would have made the earlier recordings sound way better. I’m all for Andy Sneap’s drum sound, I think he’s someone who lived through that era of albums sounding cack and knew what was needed to get them punching. Triggering samples was a bit more annoying back then, he was using an Alesis D4 a bunch in that era. Might be a touch hyped, but you can hear everything with clarity and punch which is basically exactly what was lacking before. Old testament drums to me are sort of buried, tuned weird and drenched in crap reverb.
Guitar tone on Demonic is so killer too, christ.
It’s quite potent. Honestly best framed up by Metalhead Productions’ video (Stephen I think his name is)… that’s where I got the idea to try one out.Hows the ST9 Pro+ in general?
I said to myself I'm good for boosts for a while and then I stumbled onto that one pretty recently, temped honestly.
